Whenever I've bought a jap import I've always made sure they've been undersealed properly before picking up from the dealers. The condition most cars arrive from japan in is just about as clean as you'll get but just wait 'till they've had a winter in the UK where the roads get salt thrown over them as soon as there's a hint of frost, you'll find a nice covering of surface rust by spring!
My advice, get 'em done ASAP and properly (waxoyl is ok but needs doing each year as it wears off) the best sort is the black stuff that sets hard (the stuff UK cars have). I've only paid for it once and it cost £60 job done. The Waxoyl kit costs around £30 and then you have to DIY. My Surfs been undersealed, Waxoyled and has the old engine oil sprayed underneath whenever it goes in for a service and there's no trace of rust and it goes in and out of the sea all through summer!
