    Hi all,

I am sure that you have seen these questions loads of times, please bear with me

I am interested in dipping my toe in the water of the world that is Surf!

    1) I read that the engine to go for is the 3.0, but what is the best trim level to go for?

    2) If I get one it will be the "second" car so don't want to spend 1000's ... what age and condition will I expect to get for £3000 ish?

    3) What are the things to look for in a Surf of this age and are there any major expenses going to drop in my lap?

    4) Insurance - can you get it OK.

    5) Can you get spares/service items OK?

    Enough questions...

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards,
    Steve.

Paff is short for Paffman, an old name for the man who delivers paraffin fuel.

how long's a piece of string?

plenty well over 100,000... depends how it's looked after

as any car, regular servicing will help it.

nothing i know of that prematurely wears... just the usual 2.4 head problem, but cos you don't hear of ones that don't go it seems worse than it really is!

I wouldn't be put off by the 2.4 engine. As long as it's been looked after (like Pops) you shouldn't get any problems.

Pop's 2.4 is also a 'G' (SSR-G) which has all the good stuff, Recaro seats, digital air con switches, 4 wheels, etc.

See other thread. link already posted for a long list of what to look for.
As for the price I think personally you will find a 3.0 but will need to look hard for one and be in the right place at the right time. I have seen a few 3.0 on ebay for that money but to be honest they didn't look to good.
A 2.4 with a new modified head will give you good motoring, just see receipts to prove it.
As for spec SSRG is top of the range but that said I have seen SSRX with more on them than an SSRG. Optional extra's are a plenty in Japan and they seem to fit them at random. So its not uncommon to find a lesser spec model with more on it than a higher spec model.
From the base SSR Ltd model through to the top SSRG all have
five electric windows, air con, electric mirrors, electric aerials, radio CD (which rarely work over here)
Variations will be things like sunroof, recaro interior, pollen filter, leather, wheels, bull bars, A bars, hifi, sat nav, tv, colour coded bumpers etc etc.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.
