I have purchased a 94 3.0l with 89Kms showing. The car was purchased from a dealer (fresh import) with the understanding it would be fully serviced and prepared. He refused to change the cam belt saying it was changed in November 2002. However he has not supplied any proof of this other than saying it was said at the auction in Japan. I have looked at the belt, it is shiny and the lines of the teeth can be clearly seen through the flat outer face. I do not think it is newish. What do you folks think from experience?

Ask the dealer to confirm in writing to you that in their opinion it is a new belt and does not need to be changed,
see what their reply is

Hi,
Gotta agree with Rich & Koi - The only way to be sure is change the cambelt yourself. Its an easy job and doesnt take long. I always change the tensioner at the same time (it's only £9 something plus vat from toyota) Also make sure all the pulleys are ok.
Cheers

Foot note to say changing the Cam belt is easy and can be don't by anyone with a 12mm socket and a screwdriver.
The japanese put stickers on the car when they did stuff like changing the cam belt. have a look around and maybe your find when they changed the belt.

Then you can remove the timing belt cover and change the belt.
Should take a couple of hours at most if everything comes undone.
