On the way home on the train tonight I sat opposite a pretty young lady who looked a bit tearful. I asked her if she was on her way home for Christmas. It turned out she is French and studying at the local uni. She said she couldn't afford to go home to Paris for Christmas and her friends are all away for the holiday, so she will be alone. I felt terrible for not inviting her to ours for Christmas Day, but thought it best for an old geezer like me not to invite her.
I told Mrs KS the story when I got home and she said, "You didn't invite her, did you?" So I suppose my gut instinct was right. At least she looked happier after my clumsy attempts at schoolboy French and me wishing her Bon Noel!
It must be horrible being stuck in student digs on your own over the Christmas holiday.
