  • Why are 'simple' jobs PIGS !

What a Pig of a job, jut changing the glowplugs to try and cure starting prob.

    1 remove airbox and pipe.

Damn it split rubber on pipe , fetch the duct tape.

    2. Remove the alluminium air pipe

Damn it got a nose bleed from pulling it so hard ! rubber is now concrete !

    3. remove all four glowplugs , buzzbar .... all pretty easy and straight forward.

    4. put new plugs in , loose various nuts in the engine bay !

    5. replace the nose bleed inducing airpipe.

Damn it , split the rubber , spend about 40 mins trying to ease it back into the rubber , loose a stupid clip thing ( its dark ! )

3 Hours in total and mate said , " your glow plugs looks alright , perhaps its something else ! "

There was quite a bit of oil in the air pipes ? is this usual ?

Try draining down the radiator !..... once you have loacated the drain plug and removed what you think you need to, to get to it !!! I ended up making an articulated tol to get to it to avoid removing the oil cooler.
The things you learn about the japanese from owning one of their vehicles are
1... they all have tiny hands
2... if it can be over complicated , it will be
3... if they can hide it somewhere, they will
4... they build their vehicles on the same principal as the chinese do in making a puzzle !!

I know the feeling, what a bas*&^ job it is getting the aly inlet pipe on and off. My pipes were also hard as concrete.

as far as plugs looking ok is concerned! They will look OK even if they are useless. The coil is on the inside. Connect them to a 12 volt battery capable of delivering 40 amps or more (car batt is ideal) and they ought to glow nice and red. Just testing continuity is no good as they can conduct thru the internal coil while still being useless.

What dod you think of those flippin awful hose clips? they were invented by a crazy person for sure!

it can be caused by crankcase pressure, that pipe that comes off the rocker cover probably blows a bit of oil. mine does it a fair bit too - nothing to really worry about.
im more concerned if my turbo seals are playing up.
