  • Hi Lo jumping....?

    Hi All,

My friend has a Fourtrak with a problem: While drivin along in 2WD HI at normal town speeds the car will suddenly lurch forward, the revs will rise and the truck will decelrate rapidly as if you have changed into far too lower gear

He hasn't looked at but guesses that the problem is that 4WD LO is engaging by itself?

This is a two part post - one, to find out if anyone knows the likely cause of it jumping from Hi to Lo on it's own - is this likely to be easy to fix?

Secondly, to see if anyone might want it as he's getting rid of it now?

    Details he sent me are:

Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8l Turbo Diesel Intercooler

    K reg '94 78k

    3 Door LWB 7 Seater
    3 Stage adjustable suspension
    PAS
    Tilt and Removable sunroof
    Tilt STeering
    Bullbars
    Tow Bar dual sockets

    Good Bits

MOT till july for what its worth
    Tax till july
Engine pulls well when correctly connected to the transmission
    Rear diff recently rebuilt
    Brand new battery

    Bad Bits

1 out of 4 side lights is out, corroded wiring
1 out of 4 tail lights is out, corroded wiring
Rust in the usual places, mostly bubbly arches
    Passenger Electric window is intermittent.
Front RH auto lock is clicky
Something very wrong with the transmission. While drivin along in 2WD HI at normal town speeds the car will suddenly lurch forward, the revs will rise and the truck will decelrate rapidly as if you have changed into far too lower gear

I havent had it looked at but I would guess that the problem is that 4WD LO is engaging by itself.

I managed to drive it off the flatbed trailer and park it, it would definetly require a trailer or a flatbed pickup to take it away.

I think the lever goes into LO, cos it can still be driven, but he just doesn't trust it. It clearly needs to be looked at.
