Recently had my head poked into the drivers front footwell checking the fuses .
The first thing I noticed was the large airy hole where my steering column disappears through the bulkhead.
As (a) you folks are the font of all surfing knowledge
(b) I,ve lost my bl**dy Haynes manual again

I reckon this should be covered by a gaiter/boot/grommet ?
What should be there ?
How does it fit ?
Is it a main dealer or universal part ?

I want to sort this asap as I don,t fancy getting my feet wet.

Duck tape & a cut down wellie boot should do the trick

This part is the weather seal around the stearing shaft... it is a readily available part from most dealers when you order one... The job takes about an hour to complete first you need to start praying to god SURF in the foot well alter, there are three bolts that hold it in place then you need to undo the shaft from the stearing column and the UJ that is outside the firewall and remove.. This can make you breakout into a sweat and a few choice words. You then slide the new sheild in place in the reverse order of dismanteling. If you dont do this you end up with wet stuff all over your boots when you go paddeling

I had the engine replaced recently, what are the odds this is when it "fell"

It is very unlikely unless the shaft was removed to aid the fitting of the engine... It is a plate with a rubber grommet attached, Its not a big piece or overly expensive i think its about £15 if i remember right.....

On my 2/4 the rubber has perished and is slowly crumbling.Just suffering from old age.Only noticed mine when I was under dash to remove wiring harness from aerial relay.
