  • Idiots At Thatcham....

    http://www.thatcham.org/research/index.jsp?page=139

Have they no concept about approach and depture and departure angles????

Do they not realise what a 4x4 is DESIGNED TO DO?

I feel an e-mail coming on to these ill-informed idiots......

    Related 'news' article:

Yet more fodder for the Anti-4x4 lobby. I'm nearly lost for words again. Are there no engineers at Thatcham or what?

Until all cars have active suspension or proper anti-dive braking, when 2 cars are braking, the rear bumper of the car in front will always be higher than the front bumper of the car behind. When you brake, nose of car drops, tail rises, due to weight transfer.

You would think the Thatcham folk (I shy away from referring to them as engineers, having read the article in your link) would remember something so elementary...

        'Bad' car bumpers costing drivers

Better car bumpers would lower repair costs, Thatcham says
Badly-designed car bumpers cost drivers £250m a year in unnecessary bills, an industry research centre claims.

NO! Better car DRIVERS would lower repair costs!

So, why did they try to ban the full bull bars?
Shirly these would still make contact with the other car's bumper irespective of where te ar$e end of te car is!

Its all ****, some stupid woman drove her Metro in to the back of my pickup one day, she mashed her car, but bounced off my rear tyres as my rear bumper (3" 5mm thick box section) cleared her bumper easy!!! No damage to my truck at all.

Who had the best designed car??????.....

ME!!! Bobtailed lifted trucks should be held up as the way ahead!

Who needs bumpers when you've got TYRES!

But you loose points on places to put the shopping!

My towbar saved my 4Runner from a certain write off . The bumper was mullered .The Mondeo just ran under the bumper bending it upwards and met Mr Towbar . 4Runner 1 - Mondeo 0 .

Shopping goes in the Surf, the pickup wouldn't fit under the height barrier.

If everyone drove a Surf then the bumpers would all be the same height ish.
It’s a simple answer, every one should drive a Surf not those nogy-pogy stupid little tin boxes with hair driers for engines.
