  • Advice Needed Urgently!

    Hi,

This morning when my brother in law was driving to work after going about a mile the front passenger wheel just fell off.

He drives a Peugeot 306 Diesel.

Luckily he was only shaken up and not hurt.

    WHY would this happen?

No work had been done on the wheel and everything was normal!

He could not find the lug nuts so I personally suspect that someone did it deliberately!

I always thought that lug nuts were "self tightening" and it was impossible for any off them too loosen let alone fall completely out!

Especially all 4 of them at the same time!

Can any of you who are technically minded confirm this?

I told him to go to the police immediately as it was very serious indeed!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Gary

    I suspect foul play.

All wheel nuts don`t just fall out at once

if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck & quacks, its probably a duck.

Someone took them off for a laugh (!) or was attempting to nick them.

I Don't think the wheel nunts would self tighten, except on the old sportscars with wire wheels & spinners. I once had one and the threads were lh on one side & rh on the other, I assume to stop the spinner working loose?
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

Probably little scroats tried nicking em in the night and got disturbed, therefore not actually taking the wheel but either taking of most if not all of the wheel nuts.

I actually caut two chavs nicking the wheels off my e$cort van.
For some reason, the squeek of the nuts being loosened woke me up!
I poped outside to have a word and offer my assistance, but for some reason the 3x2 I brought with me scared them off.

They caught the one lad a bit later, although he denied everything.
The only problem was 4x wheel nuts and a Ford centre cap in his chav pocket!

If he has hub caps then get cable ties and tie them on then all he has to do is to check they are still tied, this saves having to removed all hub caps to check for wheel nuts.( if you think it might not be a one off??)

                are the studs still there??

if you have loose wheel nuts then the studs will snap...

embarrassing moment 192: when my mates dads wheel fell off the back of his skoda estelle while dropping us off at the pub!... half shaft n all!

Trucks and older car that have left hand thread nuts on the passenger side are in theory self tighening. but not cars with normal threads all the way round.

I've seen a Hilux pickup lose a wheel after the owner forgot to tighten the lug nuts, or the local $hit-fit didn't, one or the other.

That happened to my ex-wife while driving her Renault 14GTL. I had put the wheel on myself with an airgun three weeks previously. She said she thought I was trying to get rid of her.

Then she borrowed my Volvo 145 and the brakes failed.

I can't understand why she divorced me.

My ex pulled out infront of a speeding car and ended up in horsepiddle.
She said, he shouldn't have been speeding!
