  • how to engage the 4wd drive ?

this might seem a silly question but how do you engage the 4wd on automatic surf i have the owners manual but it does not make it clear is there a special way to do it or is a matter of just moving the small lever and pressing the 4wd button on the side or is it you can be only in 1st or 2nd gear not in drive i just do not want to brake my gearbox
NO LONGER A SURFER NOW DRIVING A LEXUS

        If it's a 2nd gen.......

        Pic 1. 2 wheel drive.

Pic 2. 4 wheel drive High ratio. Can be engaged or disengaged on the move up to 80kph. (4wd will light up on dash)

pic 3. 4 wheel drive Low ratio. transfer lever pushed forward, button in or out. must be engaged or disengaged while stationary and with gear stick in neutral. (4wd will light up on dash)

if 4wd light does not immediatly come on when engaging or go off when disengaging try driving forward or back a little way till the light goes on or off.

Only use 4 wheel drive on loose surfaces.

From reading these pages I have a suspision the surf I have bought has been run in 4WD on the road for some time, if the horrible noises are due to this what am I looking at for repairs (£ ) ?

Any guidance would be most appreciated
