          At the end of the day, it's a 2.4TD engine. As has been said, an engine is an engine, and anything with a turbo, be it petrol or diesel, will respond to being able to breathe more freely.

          Torque (which it sounds like you want) is often more difficult to obtain...because at the end of the day, torque is brute force..and brute force comes with size. Thats not very helpful to you, though, unless you want to start increasing cc's.

          Stick with the advice given;

          Induction Air: More of it, and as low a temp as possible (cooler air is denser, and so contains more oxygen). If you have to have bends in the tubing between your filter and your throttle-body, keep them as long and flowing as possible. Tight curves slow air down, and cause eddy's.

          Exhaust Air : get rid of it. Heat-wrapping exhaust manifolds in the engine bay has two benefits: you're keeping the engine bay temps down, and you're keeping the exhaust gasses as hot as possible...hot air travells faster.

          I dont want to try to go into any great depth with advice because I dont actually know anything about the surf just yet...the above is based on applying common principles.

          Hopefully there is something of use in there!!!

          I must admit, I'm rather scared of how a 2.4 surf is going to feel...it has twice the bulk and less than half the power of the car it is due to tow!

            Nope, 2nd Gens use the same chassis regardless which engine is fitted, petrol or diesel

              Hey, I used to have one of them, and in all honesty its not the worst car I've ever had, not to say I'd want one again .... but still not the worst.

                ..which surely begs the question...what on earth did you have before that

                  Prior to the Fuego I would have owned/had (in no particular order) 2x MkII Ford Escorts, 2x VW Beetles, 2x Renault 5's, 2x Fiat Miafiori's, Fiat X1/9, Austin Allegro, Chrysler Sunbeam, Toyota Cressida ... think thats it, all these would have been over about 4 to 5 years in total, so as you can see, the Fuego was certainly not the worst in there, hell I was desperate/skint enough to have an Allegro for a month or so!
