  • stop that dinging

    Hi all,

I've tried a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. That dinging noise when you leave the key in the ignition is driving me bonkers. I've found that if you pull out the long white connector under the fuses it stops. My radio and clock seem to be on this as well so I can't just leave it disconnected. There are quite a few wires coming out of it and I thought I could cut the one that causes the dinging noise - but - which one is it?

Yeah me too......i found the one for the reverse behind the clocks. But this one seems to come from a black box near the fuses box......

Alarm guy stopped it by disconectting a wire to the door switch but knocked out the light for the key also......

    Anyone...........?????????

O.K. your woes are over.......................... ....
Just disconnect the red wire with the white stripe to stop that Dinging!
NB. Just don't forget to switch your lights off when removing key, 'cos it's that 'Dinger' too!

Oops, Just realised that the disconnected wire is for the interior light door switch. oh well, I can live with that!

It's the green one CUT THE GREEN ONE!!

It was almost that tense doing it

http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/chimes.htm has some bad pictures but it's enough to find the right area. It's also a bit missleading as there is only one wire that you want to cut so earth the volt meter on the body not another wire.

On my '95 2nd gen it's a green and white wire, upper right corner of the connection box (if it's not twisted around...) Should be 12v with door open and key OUT, then 0v with door open and key IN.

Hey presto no chime with the key in but interior light and headlight warning alarm still work!! I'm well chuffed to be rid of that, it's been a constant pain in the ar$e since day one.

I've replaced the dings on mine with the innards of a music bell from the pound shop so mine plays tunes - jingle bells on it now (not really)
