  • Rear Brake Lights

    Hi,
Glad I've found a place where the people seem very helpful. The brake light on the rear drivers side has gone and I want to change it.Anyone have any ideas as I cannot get the storage box out to get to it.How does this come out?I have a 3.0 M reg surf.
    Hope you can help.
    Many thanks

i may be well off as i only know about 3rd gen... but...

open the tailgate and there are 2 screws holding the entire lamp cluster... take these out, then give the cluster a bit of sideways wiggling, the other side is held with 2 pins which come out with some gentle persuasion...

then remove lamps from twist holders.
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

are you saying that both lights work until you have the headlights on?... that would be more of a problem than the lamp...

you should be able to tell by looking at the lamps as the filament will be broken...

try wedging something on the brake pedal so you can see what's working.

(think the brake is the top lamp though.

The tail and brake light are in the one bulb. They are twin filament. If tail is working then filament for brake is blown.

last time i had a cricket bat (which had varnish splattered on it looking suspiciously like blood!)... got asked by mr rozzer why i had it... luckily i also had other junk i could pass off as camping gear!!... phew!

worst thing is, i still don't know who's bat it was, or how it got there!!
