  • 3rd gen Going up in the world

Been taking advantage of the good weather today by doing 1 1/2" Milners body lift.
Easy job on the 3rd Gen as the body is only held on via 8 bolts, which are all easy to get at.
You need to remove the front bumper to get at the front 2.

Made a nylon steering link adapter at work and also got 2 longer M8 bolts for the link, these were the only extras needed, the Milners kit comes in at £55 + vat so is a pretty cheap lift and only takes a morning to fit.

Had to drill new location holes on the front bumper mounts to raise it same as lift, also had to elongate the fan shoud holes to move it down slightly (1/8") as the fan was just catching at the bottom.

Nothing very taxing and all done on the drive, well happy with the outcome.

Pictures show - before, steering link adapter, link adapter fitted & after shot showing difference on front wheel arch.

I have diagram for the link adapter if anyone wants it also have CNC points for machining.

Nice one Rob . Took Matt about 6 months to do his !! You need to send Matt one of those steering extensions as that was his main problem .

      Nicely done.

You could make some of those steering extentions up... should be a few around here that would want one...

trouble was with 2" lift the steering extension causes the nut to touch the exhaust.

cos it's designed for a LHD motor, US never had any trouble with it!

That is going to hurt, even after a short run...

what came in the kit?... body spacers, bolts and that's it??

no bumper brackets, radiator brackets, steering extension?

also, on the newer 3rd gens (after 1996) there are 10 body mounts, Roger brown sells a mod as the 10th mounting point is there but no bolts.

Just came with the 8 spacers & bolts, made the link adapter meself. Modding the front bumper brakets isn't anything hard just a case of drilling 2 holes 38mm lower.

Not got any clearance problems with the steering bolt & exhaust though this is 1 1/2" body lift not 2" lift.

I think you get away with a lot only going this high, going higher brings relocation of rad, possible extension to fuel filler pipe hose and other small problems as you have noted into play.

Just gone for the easy option and it's a start at getting things bigger

ps There are holes ready for additional 2 body mount bolts but as said no brackets so havent bothered as I don't have access to welding gear, and if the boffs at Toyo decided they weren't needed who am I to argue.

which means its probably only suited to '96 models, not later ones as claimed on their site.
Assuming of course that the Surfs are the same as the 4Runners in having 10 mounts from 1997 onwards, anybody wana look under a later 3rd Gen to confirm? the extra mount is roughly below the B pillar I think.

                Anyway, Looking good Rob!

Didnt have any problems fitting it to my 98 model, only encountered the same as Rob, fan catching the shroud on the radiator, steering spline extending and eventualy refitting the front bumper higher by drilling the mounts higher. The mounts are front, can be fit from the wheel arch. Front footwell. Rear footwell at base of pillar. And rear corners in boot.
8 mounts points only used, as there is only 8 bolts to remove.
