Another noob sticks his head above the parapet...
FIrst saw a Surf last year outside the Sainsbury's depot in Maidstone - spent so long looking at it that the owner come out thinking I was preparing to half-inch it
Then spent another half-hour talking to the owner about it!
As the Escort (am I allowed to say that?) is now approaching the breakers yard, I have now girded my loins, bitten the bullet and bought a Surf. (It may have been girded the bullet and bitten my loins, but I'm sure I would have remembered).
Said Surf is currently on it's way from the land of the rising yen, so I am chewing my nails and hoping the Ford doesn't expire too soon.
Have been lurking here for a while, although rarely posting, as the technical wizards seem to have all the answers. I have to say at this point that there is a definite air of "mad as a treeful of monkeys" about this site, but having spent several years reading and posting on the UKGSer forum (BMW GS bikes), it all assumes a comforting air of familiarity...
Scouting around the forum today at luchtime, I note a distressing number of posts along the lines that "the OEM satnav won't work in the UK, so ditch it". There were, and probably still are, a number of GPS wizards on UKGSer, so I will ask around on there - if the CD is in propietary file format, I may still be stuffed, but it has to be worth a try
Yes, I can use the search facility, and yes I will try to remember to search the site BEFORE asking idiot questions. That said, be ready for some idiot questions
