          There is a 3rd option

Safari rack and chain the spare wheel on that

Or cheaper keep spare wheel in the boot.

Or get a new rear bumper, one of the ones that has the spare wheel carrier mounted to it. TJM make one.

However it has been done with the standard one, you can fit some reinforcing plates behind the pillar - don't really need to weld them in, just locate them with the bolts that mount the carrier. Don't need a new tailgate, just the parts that fit as the tailgate is the same - need to make some holes to fit the number plate carrier and re-route the cables for the number plate lights. Also you will have no reversing light unless you can get the rear light units that have them in like the ones that come with the spare wheel carrier on the back.

Best thing is to find someone who wants to swap _ like I did moving mine underneath - Bundubasher had my rear carrier and I had his underslung.

should be able to fit pretty mush any size underneath... it's only attached to a cable.... obviously might reduce ground clearance if you've got 35 15 15s on there though!

I know for sure you can get a 31x10.5 under there cos I got one. Don't think anything any bigger would fit and even a 31 can depend on what tow bar you've got fitted (if any)
