  • Mitsubishi Animal versus Surf

My mate fancies a four wheel drive.

He likes the Mitsubishi L200 Animal (is that right?)

Would anyone like to tell him which is better and why?

No I'm afraid not, it's a bit obvious, plus he's got long hair so he gets "hair" jokes all the time.

I'll have to come up with something to stop him doing it. It's only 'cos it's got a scoop on the bonnet I'm sure! Puff!

Reasons for against Surf/ L200 animal
A workmate who had an Mitsu Animal, borrowed my 2nd gen 3ltr and found it to be a better drive, more responsive to the wheel and throttle. He has now sold his Mitsu and drives a 2nd gen 3.0 surf.

the surf has a more flexable loadspace, the mitsu allthough a pickup has a limited load space, eg I can get a 6ft2 fridge in the back of the surf, or comfortably carry three passengers long distance with luggage, wheras the mitsu has a limited amount of rear legroom, and a loadlength marginaly longer than the surf with the rear seats up.

My greatest joy is that the surf is an estate body, therefore £1.00 cheaper than the mitsu on the toll bridges.

Finaly the Surf does not have the low rent reputation of the Shogun/Paj and L200

                Hope this helps.

Ok nicely done, when we dry off we can go find the boat!

3rd gen Surf has a larger cargo area than the mitsubishi pick up(plus the rear seats fold down to give you even more space). The Surf looks better and has more grunt, you can drive on tarmac in 4wd with the Surf(3rd gen only),I don't think you can do that in the mitsubishi.Rear visibility is better in the Surf,I had a test drive in a mitsubishi 4life pick up a couple of years ago, couldn't see a !!!!!! thing in my rear view mirror. You get a lot more for your money with a Surf.

A mate of mine has a fully loaded L200, which is only ten months old, and he is already fed up with it. He agrees with the reasons above when compared to my Surf, plus the L200 runs out of grunt a long time before the Surf does on the m/way

                    Cheers, Nick

A Surf's far more manoeuverable. The L200 has got a turning circle like a super tanker.

I was about to mention that one. Its near impossible to drive around tight car parks without making a prat of yourself.

As someone else mentioned, you really can`t see anything out the back. I was told its got soft bodywork as well, meaning if you have a slight ding in it, the dent is magnified since its so soft.

My boss has one and its a mess of dents due to him not being able to see out of it and it beign so bad to try an manouver (sp) around tight areas.

Just mention that surf are a lot cheaper but you still get more for your money than you do with a L200.Apart from that he would get fed up with you saying

I had a Shogun sport when my towbar was being fitted, it had plenty of grunt but it was a 3lV6, which the l200 isnt, it was also a little bit tighter on loadspace than the surf. I woulb be surprised if you couldn't drive in 4wd on tarmac as mitsuis super selct 4wd system has an open dif 4wd setting. If it has the 2.5td then I would agree that it is quite a bit down on power. In the end though all of this might not be relevent to what he wants to use it for, why doesn't he drive both and make up his own mind?
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

Well I reckon that should do it.

Here's to hoping to get another "surfer".
