  • Rear Suspension

When I bought my 4-runner it came with air shocks on the rear that I could raise and lower by using an airline. My truck then went into the Main dealers to have the rear drives looked at. While it was there they managed to break one of the shocks so they replaced tham with Toyota origanals. No it sits down at the back slightly. To rectify this can I just swap the shocks for some adj ones or is there more to it than this ?????

A lot of us have Procomps Explorer ES3000 or ES6000, but they are not adjustable. Rancho do some nice adjustable ones but they are pricey. Have a check around the internet (sorry - too busy to search for links today!!)

Are your springs ok or do they need replacing??

I found that the best thing was to change the springs, My 4runner ones were making my back end sag, I went for the milner 20% stiffer springs and they nearly cured the problem completely (I then replaced my shocks and now it sits perfectly level)
I would recormend the stiffer springs.
I would also have made toyota replace what they broke with the same thing (i.e. like for like), not toyota standard shocks.
There are loads of shocks out there, the cheap option are the rancho ones, there are loads of reviews on here for them, I went for koni heavy tracks which are the dogs but expensive (chunkymonkey and I installed es9000 alround on his surf and then konis alround on mine, we both have the stiffer springs and are both really happy with the outcome only time will tell if me paying double the price for shocks pays off).
Also the Konis are adjustable, there is a small button you push down and then you can twist the shock to make it stiffer if you like, (I did not do this and still noticed a big change)

But do the springs first is my advice

hi mate - I have Rancho 9000 adjustables all round on hardest setting with stronger springs at the rear also... always have a bootful of junk and the car sits level. cant say fairer than that
contact Specialist Leisure if you need the shocks, around £100 each.

2" plus springs... ProComp... and if all the plumbing is there for the rear coil air bags... and that is what it sounds like you are talking about... www.coil-rite.com

Firestone airbags... try www.truckspring.com good service, and half the price of Firestone Europe out of Ireland. (approx £60.00 with the duty)...

Works a treat... get about an additional 2" of lift as and when you need it...ie. when loaded up... and not all the time.

I'll second the recommendation for Milner's 20% stiffer springs.

But aren't the guys who broke your car obliged to return it back to the way it was before they broke it?
