    evening all i have a 3rd gen 3.0td surf and just want to get some info on the 4x4 on it.does it still suffer with axel windup.can it be driven on the road in 4x4 many thanks mat

    if it is definitely a 3rd gen then yes you can drive on the road in 4x4 with no problems,,.
    try a search for more detailed info

      As I understand it, the 3rd gen has several 4wd modes, one of which keeps all the diffs open and is thus OK for on road use.

        i have the option to lock the centre diff if that makes a diffrence

          Locking the center diff makes it the same as a 2nd gen in 4WD, no-no for hard surfaces, with the center diff unlocked, you have all-wheel-drive which is fine on the road. normally on the road you'd be in 2wd to save MPG and wear and tear.
