  • Servicing in Bristol UK

    Hello all

New member on this forum - looks damn useful!

This time next Saturday, I should be the proud owner of an imported 1995 2nd gen Hilux Surf SSR-G 3.0TD (recaro interior and manual box too! drool)….
Bought it from its 2nd UK owner with UK SH, which is cool.

Its due its 5000mile (or thereabouts) service and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a trustworthy garage in the Bristol / Avon area for servicing.

Also, what does the 5000 mile service involve?
I have a good friend who is an ex plant mechanic (Volvo Cat machines) who would be able to help me service the truck, but I just wanted to check what this actually involves to keep the Hilux running sweet. Details of what needs to be done and where to source the necessary spares would be really good.

    Any help much appreciated..
    Cheers
    Dan

get parts from Milner off road or roughtrax or toyota

change oil, air/fuel/oil filters, belts (inc. cam belt if it's unknown age)
change coolant, top up washer bottle, bleed brakes, check disks/pads/shoes/drums, grease drivetrain.

plant fitter mate should be able to do it no problem as it's just like any other diesel engine.

filter kit is about £15-20 from milners... much cheaper than getting a garage to do it and peace of mind that they haven't cut corners! but keep receipts as proof of servicing.
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

      Excellent stuff mate

Filters should be easy, but is there anything awkard about greasing the drivetrain or changing the coolant? I guess I need to know where all the grease nipples are? Let me know

Also, do you really need to do the brakes every 5000 miles?

Once I get the hang of it, I would definitely trust myself rather than a garage (especially with a plant fitter mate to assist!)

      Thanks loads for the advice
      Cheers

Check the brakes twice a year, especially the fronts, when changing the oil is normally the least you should do, plus the props have grease nipples on each UJ. that should be grease at the same time.
