yesterday my back window finally gave up and just gave me a pathetic buzzing noise when I turned the key .... so undeterred and needing to load up some bikes we poked them through the rear side door, and 5 minutes later we have 3 road race bikes, kit bags and 3 people ready to go. I love this Surf... it makes life so easy

anyway, I need the back door working so I followed instructions from one of the fellas on here to whip the panel off and give it some grease... so Im firking around trying to get the grease to spray in the right places and I happen across a bundle of relays near the key switch area... then a little light came on in my head like something in a cartoon...

that noise i had been hearing was actually the noise from a duff relay not a struggling motor as I first thought, sure enough upon inspection one of them was oozing rusty water ( not sure where the water came from because it was dry as anything inside the door) anyway, a visit to the local motor spares and a £3.50 relay later and the job's a good 'un.

I feel like ive got to know a little bit more about my surf and bonded with it some more.

oh and the tip off for the jap sized plate was great, new plate arrived really fast and the arse end now looks tidier than jackie deggs.

its a surf with underslung wheel. Im not sure if the relays are some sort of non standard set up as theres some different looking insulation tape in some areas of the loom. maybe that was just for the addition of the fog lamp when it was imported. not sure.
anyway, the relays are bog standard relays, 30, 85, 86 87 i think are the outputs. you can get them from any electrical parts place such as maplins or in my case a little motor spares place ( in Croydon) that apparently specialises in jap cars which is like an aladins cave type shop.

If you get any serious probs with your Surf, there's a wee garage in Nottingham Road (the bit that runs between Bramley Hill and Wareham Rd) that did our Surf when the head went. Very thorough and competent... sorry can't remember the name of it but it's the only one in that road !!

for some reason I can't pm Helen,

Helen, where abouts on Nottingham road was the garage you mentioned. I cant see anything on there that might be a garage, just a bowling club, primary school and houses. can you describe what the place looked like?

                  Here I am...
If you turn into Nottingham Road from Bramley Hill it's on the left. Blink and you'll miss it. Tiny place, no forecourt. Looks like someones lock up between blocks of flats. I'm around that way later so will get the name...can't remember it ...der, and get a better landmark.

The RAC dragged the Surf there when the head went. There was a prob with the replacement head and the guy ended up taking it apart twice. He was very thorough with the refilling and checking and would only let us have it back when he was completely happy. So a sound bloke...

Back again. I went passed it this afternoon... it is opposite the main doors of the bowling club. Number 13. Just before block of flats called Archer Court. Two sets of double doors painted green...No name board.

Now sign up for a blue star...!!!!
