Contemplating de chroming my bumpers next weekend...

Fed up of polishing them and thought as truck black they would also look nice in same colour (stealth look )

    Am I mad?

    Anyone done this, tips?

Good idea.I hate chrome.I'm getting a Kaymar rear bar and wheel carrier eventually and will have the side bumper sections chrome stripped and then powder coated along with bar to match.Bullbar will also be powder coated.

No, not mad, all UK 4Runners come with coloured bumpers. no chrome anywhere, wing mirrors, trim, etc.... Look nice.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Again, any tips on respraying or getting rid of the chrome would be gratefully appreciated.

        Cheers mike

Been told it's all in the preperation...

Lots of wet&dry, followed by using a 'plastic' primer

          Does this sound right?

                Tony ,
Are the bumpers and mirror caps still steel or are they plastic ?
Only I would have thought if steel they would always be chipping the paint and corroding and not as flexible as plastic .I know the vehicle itself is steel but does not suffer impact like the bumpers etc .
I would consider a powder coating as a option . I am having a set of steel wheels powder coated for my car as it more resistant to stone chips and impact damage and does not need polishing as opposed to paint .

it's sprayed on like a powder, then put in an oven... specialist job, but speak to them and they may prep the metal (shot blast or sommat)... used to only get a few colours and it was like really think plastic coating, but now it looks real good... there's an episode of american chopper where he goes to the powder coater to get some wheels done, shows how it works
