NEED ADVISE tonight!!!!!

Please can some one help,i"ve looked at buying a 1993 ssr x in black imported just over a year ago,he got from a dealer in yorkshire,He payed or has receipts for £5000 but it was p"x with his old car i think.(its in auto trader 4 £2850 in black if any one fancys a look!!) from a private dealer,90000miles, after market wheels,just had 12 month ticket on it, full srevice 2 month ago and new brakes taxed 4 a few months he used it daily as well, I"ve looked at about 6 surfs now a that was the cleanest i"ve seen, good tread on the tyres,everything seems to work drove it no rattles or blue smoke the problem im having is the price £2850!!!!!thats stopping me buying it,i think maybe have something wrong with it and needs a quick sale,but the feeling i got was pretty geniune,do you lot think it"s to good to be TRUE??? please any advise would really help thanks.....

Sounds good, presumably a 2.4td?? At that price it sounds ideal, does it have dealer warranty? the worst that could happen is the head goes or has gone and is being covered up, at the asking price even if the head had gone you could sort it and still have good value for money.

yes its a 2.4td how do you know the heads going??

At that price & nick if you have to have a new head you will still have a good Motor that will last for years

Unfortunately there is no simple way to tell. If it has gone and had blockweld put in it may well run fine for a couple of months then suddenly go, mine did!!! on the positive side it may have no problems at all and already had the head replaced in which case you are laughing. Excessive pressure in the top hose, white smoke from exhaust, and water weeping from around hose joins are tell tale signs of head problems, the only sure sign is that it will pump all the coolant out within a couple of minutes of being started, then its head replacement time!! But as said by myself and marky, even if the head does/has gone it is still worth looking at.
Ask about head, if its showing any tell tale signs tell the seller and explain your concerns, you might just get it even cheaper????

At that price you can afford to do some work to it! The price in the surf market is really low at the mo - esp for 2.4's so if you like it as much as you seem to I'd go for it!

just another thought ,check its credit /finance clear its any easy thing to sell still owing money on it ,it may be good news and hes just desperate to sell then its his loss your gain
