There's been plenty of fast riders, (Gardner) plenty of smart riders, (Lawson) and plenty of characters (Swantz), but nobody else has had all three attributes -especially as a teenage world champion.
For those of you unfamiliar with the word committment, the videos show what the word means in real terms. For live evidence, forget the over-priced posers at Silverstone, you can see these guys live at Donnington on July 24th for £37, includes two other world championship races at the same time!

Thanks for the video qube3 - I saw the race but didn't tape it. In the pub last night talking about that for three hours. Like The Mighty Wah iv'e followed bike racing since the 60's - still think Hailwood is the greatest ever (he would ride 250, 350 and 500 on the same day), but Rossi is definately up there. Remember Phillip Island 2 yrs ago when he took a 10sec penalty and still won the race. Perhaps he should start 10sec's back every time just to give the others a chance before they all take their toys home.

Lowestoft, there's a whole bunch of SURFs in the Lowestoft & Yarmouth areas, more than I seem to see elsewhere.

Bought a new CBR600 during the winter so just beginning to open her up after bumbling (relatively!) during the crap months.

Just watched todays race and must say the decision on how hard you push on a wet/dry/wet/dry track must be a hard call when there is so much at stake, was impressed with the determination from Sete after last weekends duffing up, shame he dumped it as it has let Rossi get a fair jump on the championship, it's a long way to go though and i am sure it will just get better.
I would love a shot on one of those things, just to see if they actually are any quicker than my Aprilia......ha ha!!

                  Roll on China

after riding a fast bike and im sure peeps who have sports bikes will agree that unless you have sat astride a bike and know what a modern sports bike is capable of doing most wouldnt have the foggiest as to what a rider is doing on just one circuit of a race track weight distribution negative steering positive steering and braking the list is endless and i only wished i had the skill of a GP racer's little finger, hats off to those guys and respect to all bike racers no fear and big ball5 the lot of em

                      Gotta say it

I used to love circuit racing, went to watch anything and really loved it...until I went to the Isle of Man 25 years ago and saw Mike Hailwood jump on a Ducati and show everyone what grand master he was. It was history in the making and I was there. I went back the following couple of years, and then went back again about 6 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I have also been to Le Mans a couple of times to watch the Moto GP, as well as Assen for WSB and the usual Brit circuits, but unless you have been to the Island you will never know what you are missing, and just how close to the edge these guys are.

Yep, I think that they are all completely mad for racing there, and I wouldn't do it for all the tea in China, though I did do a Rossi once and stuff a 1200 Bandit round the inside of a CBR600 while the rider had his knee on the deck up on the mountain.

Poor Sete, I really felt for him cocking up that bend. Rossi knows how to play mind games, he did it with Biaggi and sent him on his way the last couple of years, and now he is doing the same again. Can't take anything away from the man though, everyone thought that the Honda's were unbeatable and the Yamaha's didn't cut the mustard...this guy has proved that he is what won races, not the bike.

Happy with my Fazer 1000 nowadays, it's the closest you can get to a sports bike without the pain?

                      Cheers

                      Rob G

                        MotoGP

I'm like you Rob - Hailwood was/is the greatest. Hopeless at setting up a bike, he just got on it and rode the wheels off it and rode around any faults it had.
I think there is only Rossi who is anywhere near him for sheer natural talent. Most of the others, good though they were, were technicians, particularly Doohan. Iv'e been to The Island, though unfortunately not for the racing, but I have been to the North West 200 which is road racing at it's best. Shame that there is really only Olivers Mount left in England as a road circuit though I think Oulton Park is the best of the circuits.
If you havn't already done so get hold of a copy of 'A Man Called Mike' for the best biography of Mike Hailwood.
I now ride an STX1300 co's I'm not flexible enough anymore to ride any of the pocket rockets/ballistic missile thingys unless there's a hot bath and a chiropractor at hand.

Guys, if you ever get the chance go and watch some of the road racing in Southern Ireland, I.E. Killalane, Skerries etc. or some of the Northern ones like Cookstown, Aghadowey, Mid Antrim etc., you will not believe what they are like, the TT and the NW 200 are quite tame in comparison, i used to spanner for a lad who won the 750 support championship and saw a lot of MAD MAD antics, if you get the chance go to them, you will not regret it.

I am just recovering from a mighty highside at Croft on the Mille, bust collarbone , concussed and generally beat up, oh, a big thank you to Shoei, that took some abuse but it did it's job as did my Crowtree's, superb kit!!

Just watched the 125 race from Portugal, now that was a close finish 800th's of a second, about 4" i reckon, awesome!!

Take care out there you guys on yer bikes, especially with all these 4x4 drivers feeling safe in their great big fcuck off vehicles..........LOL
