  • what is my surf worth?

getting sick of my mates saying i was ripped off so i thought i would ask here...

its a 1993 3.0 ssr-x limited AUTO, green over silver with:
    Alloy side steps,
Toyota A bar and 2 bosh spot lights (halogen... found that out when i was trying to clean the lens's and found they were sealed except for bulb changes...),
    Rear mounted wheel,
    Black with gray center seats,
    Rear window heater,
    Rear passanger controlled heater,
    All round electric windows,
    Electric door mirrors,
Twin batterys (one ether side the eng),
4x BFG at tires in good condition, (spare is a bridgestone)
    Air conditioning,
Dials in miles (upto 100mph) but odo in kms,

70k (miles) on the clock and the eng is really clean, starts the instant u turn the key (plug warmup is about half a second so ppl keep thinking its petrol...) no smoke new back box,

i am not selling the car i just want to know if they are rite about it being overpriced...

    1) Its only worth what other people will pay for it.
    2) do you enjoy driving it? does it make you smile when you drive it?
If you don't then sell it.
    3) ignore what you mates think of your choice of vehicle. You ignore theirs?

    4) enjoy driving it.
    5) do things in it that make you grin...

I just bought a 1995 model of the same spec for £4750 (private sale).

Cheapest 3.0 I saw was £3900 (private), most expensive around £7000 (trade).
          No longer a Surf owner.

I've just bought a '93 SSR-V 3.0 in good condition but needs new tyres, exhaust, and rear window motor. 60,000 miles and drives well. Paid £3150, and I think that was quite a good price. Seen a lot aroud for £5000 to £7000 but the better spec SSR-X.

Got my '94 SSR-X 3.0 in excellent condition, manual good tyres, long MOT etc... for £4450 after a bit of haggling. Was the best price I had found. Dealer just up the road was trying to sell me a '92 SSR-V 2.4 with 130000km and quite a few dents for over £5k.

Bought my Import Surf 3ltr TD, L reg, auto, for 5k just before christmas, not sure if that was a good price, but as someone has said, if you enjoy it, who cares! Put many extras on myself to make it mine, not even sure what model it is as there is only SURF written along the sides and back, couldn't see anything on the log book either, so not sure if that means it's just a basic model. I love it tho, and this was after a bmw cooper s which i sold to get it!

Guageing the true value of a used vehicle that is never an exact science. This is even more complicated in the case of Surfs which, as we know, are not marketed new in this country. So the old addage that they are worth what the market can stand is obviously true.

However, it does occurs to me that that unlike buying most used cars, we do not know the original purchase price of our vehicles.

Does anyone out there know the current purchase price of the range of Surfs in Japan?

I, for one, would be interested to know this. Can anyone help? I have not searched previous threads, so appologise if this has been discussed before.

                  Cheers,
                  Tony.
