  • 91 Hilux Surf "Surface Rust"

Hi everyone, i'm looking at either a really good deal or a major headache, Im looking at a 91 Hilux Surf with the 2.4LT with only 160k on it. But the seller says it just has some "surface rust" I took a look at it a few days ago and it runs drives great, everything works great but im just unsure. The main area of rust is the right quarter panel, Now he says the frames mint and it's easily cleaned off with a brush, maybe a few parts need replacing but nothing major, and the reason it's so rusty is because its sat for 6 months in a field. I'm ok with replacing a quarter panel and a bumper and whatever but let me know thanks!

Surface rust is a slight understatement need some panel beating in the front end also! If you're happy welding and a little project why not?
The chassis are normally pretty solid even when the body is in a sorry state (still worth checking over for holes though)

People have been getting all the replacement panels off a bloke on Facebook Uk surf groups.
If it's your first Surf/4Runner the 2.4 is a bit of a sloth but easy as chips to work on, will be faster to walk most places but as long as the old bloke has kept up with oil changes and coolant changes/flushes she'll be good as gold, getting injectors refurbished and new oil in the fan clutch wouldn't hurt. Suppose also depends how good 'a really good deal' is.... goodluck
