Newbie from Bristol here.... bought this Toyota Surf as a toy for playing in the mud. Long story but after parking it for a few days, wouldn't start. Thought it was the immobiliser as waving that little fob thing about would make the "engine check" light come on. Well, stripped down lower dash to find the immobiliser LED had fallen out of hole but can now see it working. Starting circuit works with immobilisier. However no engine check light and so no start. Will turn over fast but won't start. Been told prob ECU ????? . Now, these are dear and don't mind spending but would rather swap on first to see if it would work. Anyone got an ECU for a 3.ltr diesel (KZ) auto I could try ? or buy ?

Its pretty easy to check the ECU. Take the passenger side footwell cover off, unplug, and unbolt. Remove it and detach the casing cover. When the capacitors leak you will see brown liquid on the pcb. This can damage the tracks. If you are a magician you can replace all of the capacitors and repair the pcb tracks. ECU doctor does guaranteed work, though not cheap. You can buy the capacitors and get an electrical guru to fit them. The list of capacitors required is available on the web. My Surf was running fine until one day it would turn the engine over, but not start. Checked the ECU and 'oh dear'. Sent it off to ECU doctor, got it back in less than a week, installed it and the truck has run fine ever since. Starts first touch of the key.
