Here is a link to a thread on the Aussie site. There is another link there with info on the compressor setup. This is a different way of setting up a compressor by mounting an extra unit.

This is the info from the site.
        Equipment required/used.
2nd Hand Air Conditioner Compressor from wrecker Sagem 508 - $50
        2.5kg Gas bottle from tip - $1
        Longer Fan Belt - $13.50
        Quick Release fitting for tank
        One-way Valve for tank
        150psi release Valve - $68
Heat resistant Air Hose - $12
        Cabin Switch - $3.50
        Project Cost = Total $148

Also required, Wire, angle iron for brackets, paint, Slab
If you don't have a compressor already air hose cost $50 and a pack of various air-guns, nozzles and gadgets $30
        Complete - $228

I removed the drivers battery, re-routed the wiring loom behid the battery, moved a relay and moved the alternator wiring and earth towards the firewall.
The alloy pipe for the airconditioning had to be straightened, which I did by brute force to lift the hose up above the new compressor.
Using some scrap angle steel I made 2 brackets utilising the existing 4 bolts of the original airconditioning compressor. The key was to get it as square as possible and obviously line up the pullies for the new belt.
Once both brakets were fitted and new pump installed it was simply a matter of running a piece of string around all the pulllies and going down to Repco to get a belt to fit.

The outlet from the compressor runs forward to the airtank behind the bulbar through a one-way valve. The tank has a release valve set to 150psi so it doesn't overpressurize and a 3/8" quick release fitting for standard airhoses and fittings.

I've mounted a switch on the dash to turn it on/off.

Problems - Initial tension on the fan belt wasn't sufficient to run the air-con at high revs but tightening further fixed this.
        - The Blue air-hose from the pump to the tank in the pictures couldn't handle the heat and has since been replaced.

        RESULTS
        31" Tyre from flat - to 26psi - 45 Sec
        to 36psi - 60sec
        to 46psi - 90sec

        Double air bed matress - 2mins 30
Double mattress and 3 singles - one stubbie and no effort

Am I being cynical, but that seems a lot of money and effort to blow up tyres and airmattresses when the one I plug in my cigar lighter can do the same thing, and I've still got aircon.

It does seem like a lot of work, but I,ve got a couple of different 12v compressors & they both take an eternity to pump up a car tyre as well as being really noisy - 36psi - 60sec , if you run low pressure off-road thats a nice toy

Your average cigar lighter comp will take an age to fill up an air tank big enough to run air tools, with is the main reason for doing this apart from airing up/down tyres quickly when offroading.

A York compressor fitted to older Volvo's is the air-con compressor of choice in the US.
