If you are in a garage

The biggest deterrent to thieves who have to break into a garage is to use baby alarms. Just plug one in the garage and one in the house, if there is any noise at all you will hear it.

It also possible to buy 'landmines'. These are supposed to be filled with water and left on a driveway. If anyone goes near it it shoots water all over them. Of course, it doesn't have to be plain old 'tap water' in there does it?

Another option is one of the spy cameras on Ebay. Wire it into a 9v supply and plug the receiver into your video via a scart socket. They are wireless and the low light models should take some lovely footage of the little bu**ers.

The next option is even easier. Don't fit a stereo for a while. They are currently waiting for you to replace your stolen one and will keep returning to nick the new one. If you don't replace it then they will find another target.

      Cheers

Other good plants to keep the scrotes off your property are Pyrocantha (Fire thorn), which can be trained to grow round windows. Old fashioned climbing roses are good too. I have to be careful when I prune ours because the thorns go in, snap off and can go septic if not dug out of your skin. I have one growing over the back wall to stop the kids climbing up and teasing Lady or falling through the greenhouse.
Any plant you use as a deterrent is legal.

My Mum accidently punctured her foot, while wearing sandels, when digging the garden. The doctor was treating her for months and couldn't understand why her foot was still very inflamed and wouldn't heal. He just happened to ask her what she was digging and she told him that she was moving a clump of Monks Hood. I can't remember the botanical name but apparantly it is very poisonous. The good news was that once the doctor knew what had poisoned Mum he got her on a course of treatment. It still took time to heal.
I am not suggesting that it is a good idea to lace the rose, pyrocantha, and berberis thorns with the sap from this plant because it would be illegal. The ancient Britons used to tip their arrows with it..........................hm mmmmmmmmmmm.
All the suggestions so far have been very good, until you consider that a pet, child or neighbour could quite innocently come in contact with any of these things. Mind you, it's nice to imagine the pain and discomfort that you could inflict on the thieving scumbags.
