  • Whats the general opinion on.......

Whats the general opinion on Landcruisers? Looking at a Landcruiser Amazon 4.2td '92 fully loaded. Anything to look out for with these? What are they like on and off road? Any info apreciated.

There has been some talk about the bottom ends on '91 - '93 Landcruisers 4.2TD's... bearings and incompatible oil... general opinion seems to be '93 - '95 they had it sorted and still had a solid front axle... they went to this new fangled IFS something or other...

Plenty of Landcruiser Forum's out there... that are quite active...
http://www.ih8mud.com springs to mind. One of the guys on here runs one as well... apologies, can't remember the name of him or the website...

Love them, older the better, those VXs had lockers on them standard around 94 I think. What about a 70 series 2 door SWB for mud playing or a 3ltr KZJ78 Prado late '92 on with the 1KZT injun and solid axles front and back - me want one!

An early to mid 90's Amazon VX is the one to go for. Front, centre and rear diff locks, live front axle and plenty of mod potential. And has anyone mentioned that great 4.2L diesel power unit yet?

              Good forum here:

My HDJ80 has got lockers on a '93. Don't tend to get them on Jap Imports (do on some but quite rare) standard on the UK spec ones.

Personally I love mine and will keep it till it falls apart which seems to be about 30 - 40 years if you look after them.

4.2 TD is the one to go for, manual is the most economical - up to 30mpg on a run. Absolutely amazing torque and power for such a big beast.

Off road they are generally instoppable however they are quite large so they are not the best tool for narrow lanes or offroad sites - 70 series will be better for that.

Have a look at the following sites

                Cheers
