I have a fully comp policy. It allows me to drive cars not owned by me. The question is does that other car have to be currently insured by that person.

I have an old car which I use as backup when the surf is sick. My insurance co wont let me keep swopping onto it anymore. Why cant I sell it to someone I know well who wont be using it, for €1, then use it when I'm stuck??

        insurance

Sorry but most fully comp covers will allow you to drive a vehicle not owned by you (provided you are over 25yrs old) but that vehicle must have third party insurance cover.

          insurance

Hi best thing to do is get from the horse,s mouth ring your insurance up and ask them, if they say yes ask for the persons name who you spoke to and keep it for reference. Also what would you do about taxing the other vehicle when it is due.??????

problem is you will need to tax it and that means that you need to insure it to get the tax

                Been down this road...
B-in-L (Traffic bobby) says the other vehicle does not need to be insured as you are insured for third party only. The other vehicle must be fully roadworth (Tax & MOT) - At some point within a 12 month period the other vehilce will have to be insured as the owner won't be able to buy road tax
                NO WORRIES!

Legally the vehicle HAS to be taxed and MOT'd. You are covered to drive said vehicle on third party only cover, if you have fully comprehensive insurance in your own name. Your cover will become obsolete if car isnt road legal.
