  • Tde?

    hi all!
Looking for my german 4 Runner 3.0TD specs, found some differences between:
Some sites told it was just a TD.
Others told it was a TDE with ECD.
Well, i try to found here and on the web, but no lucky.
What a h*l is the TDE??
    I'm going nuts about this...
    Thanks!

Jap motor are 1KZ/TE the last E means electronic fuel management, UK and Euro 1KZ/T motors are virtually the same, just with the fuel pump connected to the throttle cable, instead of the Jap 'fly-by-wire' system.

ECD stands for electronic controlled deisel

      Don't worry about it!

        Tde?

        I don't think so.
        It's a 1KZT engine not a 1KZ-TE...
The TDE refers to what and the ECD? That's my question.

ECD: Eletric (Not electronic? If electronic then the spec is 1KZ-TE) Control Diesel? Maybe?
        geee......

            I mean "eleCtric".
            Bad english.

So, TDE means a Turbo Diesel controlled by electronic "using" the throttle cable?

That's funny, because I saw a friend's 1KZ-TE engine and there are some differents things like the name on the top of the engine....
Mine have "Turbo Diesel " sticker and the other have "1KZ-TE"

If really is a TE, where is that electronic part?
            Under the dashboard?

On your truck, the throttle cable goes to the air flap on the intake, and then to the fuel pump, to match the amount of fuel to the amount of air.

On 'E' trucks, the throttle cable goes to the air flap like yours, but thats it, then the engine ECU works out how much air is going in, air temp, load, etc, and then tells the fuel pump how much fuel to let in electronically.

                Easy!

Can't help you with the TDE bit, propebly like the old 2.4 TDI, but its Turbo Deisel Electronic or similar.......

TDE is often refered to as a Turbo Diesel EFI - on the 2.4 you find EFI written across the top of the Turbo pipe.

The TDE engine is the 1KZTE. The 4 Runner uses the 1KZT engine. On the 1KZTE the fuel injector pump is controlled by a fly by wire throttle and the ECU. On the 1KZT engine the fuel pump is manually set for timing and fuel flow and the throttle is a direct connection to the top of the injector pump.

For just a brief explanation on Diesels, engine speed and power is controlled only by fuel flow, air flow is always at maximum. This is one of the main differences between diesel and petrol engines where a petrol engine burns more fuel in more air dependant on engine load.

The EFI system controls the fuel flow in the 1KZTE and 2LTE engines and also adjusts the fuel timing dependant on engine load and throttle position as well as coolant temperature. None of these things are adjusted on the fly in the non EFI 1KZT engine.

                  Cheers

To be honest, I think diesels are far easier to understand than petrol engines also with far less things to go wrong.

Diesel = more fuel = more power
Petrol = more Air + more fuel (make sure that the correct amount is mixed) = more power. Plus make sure you got a nice spark, cam timing is OK, ignition timing is OK, advance is OK etc etc.

Diesels are much easier and generally a lot more reliable.

                        That's why I drive a diesel
