I think supernova has been busted or what ever the tech term for it is. I have tryed it a few times recently with no success www.supernova.org if you want to give it a try.
I,ve been using morpheus for mp3s, its ok for singles but pants for films.
I also run a program called peer guardian when ever on line.
It'll be interesting to find out what other people are using.
My mate at work who is right into downloading is getting all his stuff from the news groups now that suprnova & torrent bits are no longer available.

            cheers scotty

SuprNova.org, the most popular BitTorrent file-sharing site, is to stop hosting torrent links.

In a message posted on its website, the site operators say it "is closing down for good in the way that we all know it. We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links. We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything."

SuprNova's IRC channel and forums will remain open.

SuprNova's demise as a BitTorrent clearing house coincides with increasing legal pressure in America and Europe against P2P-enabled piracy. In the last week the Movie Picture Ass. of America signalled its intention to pursue the P2P server operators in a new front in its war internet movie pirates. Also, a popular BitTorrent site in Finland was raided by police, and an eDonkey site in the Netherlands was raided and shut down.

According to a recent academic study, BitTorrent traffic accounted for 53 per cent of all P2P internet traffic in June.

BitTorrent speeds file transfers by segmenting content and downloading parts from multiple users rather than a single server. As you receive a file, so other BitTorrent users are able to grab it from you in the same way. The idea is to ensure a more even sharing of bandwidth between participants. BitTorrent is not a classic P2P application as it's about improving download performance rather than sharing files per se. Files are found through links on websites, rather than the application itself. The MPAA and co. are gunning for operators of servers which carry these links
Seems the crackdown on illegal downloads is slowly working. \programs like Kazaa (lite), Mopheus, WinMX, eDonkey etc, now have more corrupted files than they do have working ones so I`ve given up trying to download stuff.

Luckily I know a guy who knows a guy who can get me any album I want, mosty of the time FOC, but if there is a charge its only to cover discs used.

As for DVD's, my wife works for PC World and she knows a guy who knows a guy who gets them for £1 a film, or less depending on quality, so I`ll quite happily screw the film industry to "test" there wares.

In all honesty if I like something enough I`ll happily buy it, wether its a good film or an good album, I like having the original album artwork anyway.

Suprnova has closed down Sloncek (the owner of suprnova) is now working on another project called exeem. There are still lots of torrent sites operating for those that like suprnova try www.novamesi.com its the mirror site for suprnova. If you search google for suprnova there is a site telling you why it closed and listing several more torrent sites.

It's a combination of my firewall and antivirus software that's preventing Win MX from running, got plenty of music to keep me going for the moment anyway.

                          Music downloads

It might interest you all to know that the British Phonographic Industry Ltd is currently running through a long list of UK based downloaders who have been ripping off the UK music industry for some time now. They are hitting those who have downloaded / swapped large amounts of data / music without payment in the first instance and have already obtained court judgements against many of them, which will result in quite substantial fines / compensation.

Those who have downloaded lesser amounts of music are next on the list and court orders are already going out to ISP's to compel them to disclose the names and home addresses of the downloaders. They will each be hit with a summons in the near future.

Be warned. Even if you stop illegal downloads now, they will still get you for any large amounts already downloaded as your name, address and details of downloads will be provided to them by your ISP.

Surely its quite easy to set up a false account with an ISP and use a fake address and name. Most people have an ISP that gives a dynamic IP address averytime you connect so they can't get you from this either.

The only problem will come if you leave you BBand connection on for days on end. Just disconnect and re-connect will solve this problem.

Back in the old days (or for those who haven't/can't get BBand), free dial-up ISP's used to ramp down the connection speeds for heavy users. Do what I did. Open up several different accounts with the same and other ISP's using fake names and addresses. Then you can swap from one connection (and therefore differnet usernames and IP addresses) to keep your conection speeds high. But it will STILL take upto 30mins to download one track from a P2P site!!
                            I NEED TO OFFROAD!
