  • M4 camaras

    hi all

A m8 of mine sent this to me today.

where's the fun in motoring gone

    Just so you know...

Those new electronic signs on the M4 were switched on this Tuesday.

The bad news is that they are rigged with the SPECS speed cameras. SPECS is
a computer-camera based system. As you go past the sign a Digital camera
reads your number plate. When you go past the next sign your number plate is
read again. The computer 'knows' how far apart the signs are so it can work
out your average speed between the two, or three or four.

The system is fully automatic and will issue a ticket without any form of
human intervention. It does this for every single vehicle that passes.

You will not know you've been caught, as the cameras don't flash.

They work 24/7, 365 days a year, and theoretically, there's absolutely no
limit on the number of tickets that the system can issue.

The whole section of the M4 between Theale (J12) and Membury Services
(between 14 and 15) is wired, both ways. The system is set to trigger a
ticket at 78 mph. Radar detectors will be of no use as SPECS is entirely
passive, there is no radar or laser beam to detect.

Be warned and spread the news.

I'm sooo glad this bunch of bum wipes got elected!

I think we had this a few days ago, before the threads were lost, and the concensus was that it was yet another hoax ?

not sure if it is a hoax or not but the system is avaliably and is in use in this country but i dont know where !.

there are lots of different types of camera that can be deployed including truvelo which is forward facing and is tripped by loops in the road surface the loverly gatso radar , the jump camera which should only trip after the red light comes up, and specs which is a fully digitay numberplate reader and can assess your speed over a set distance and generate a ticket all on its own usually mounted on gantrys it can be spotted due to havine a yello plate behind it and by the fact it looks like "johnny 5".

even if it were true, the small cameras next to the signs (traffic monitoring cameras) couldn't work, as specs is a high powered long lens camera with powerful infrared lamps each side of the camera and could not be contained in a unit as small as the ones next to the new traffic info signs.

oh yes they could . the new type of pedestrian crossing has a camera atop each pole to see when someone is standing there waiting to cross and these cameras can be used in all sorts or ways so you never know who might be watching or from where.

oh yes they could what? be specs cameras? specs is a flashless system, it needs high powered infrared lamps to read in low light, thats why there are three units, two lamps and a lens.

It is a hoax! Have a look at the Thames Valley Police web site. There is a catagoric denial that there are specs on the M4.
Now, what about the ones that are rumoured to have been commissioned on the M1 South, just before J6. We need to know.
                    It's only a hobby!
