This appears to be a common question, if you do a thread search for mpg, you'll get more replies than you want.
My average since purchasing my 2.4 auto is 20.79mpg, I have had 22mpg once but the normal is closer to 20.
Oh well over 2 tonnes with the wind resistance of a block of concrete, can't really complain, I just wish it had a bigger fuel tank.Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

As with most cars, mpg is directly proportional to the weight of your right foot...
I drive a 106mile round trip every day just to get to work and back, that's cost me over £5000 in the last 12months in the Surf, ouch! Roll on Friday when I get to move into deepest darkest Wales and cut my daily round trip to about 40miles! Next decision is which tyres next, I have no need to go for S/T's again...

mpg
Thats one of the reasons why I bought a land cruiser 4.5 petrol, it goes like !!!! off a shovel, when needed, if ya boot it all the time its crap on fuel but if driven normally, A roads and town, easy get 20 to the gallon, but I did think it would be better on a motorway run, but the last motorway trip still came out at 19 to the gallon, but with an average speed of 70mph, I did most of the journey at 85 mph, so I think it is quite comparable to my surf 2.4

if you wanted mpg you could of bought a renault or something!!! i get around 23-25 average, the best ever being 29.7! (ahh, calculaters). i find the best m/way speed is 65-70. i also find that having passengers is a drainer. last week i went to plymouth twice in one day at the same speed. once by myself, the other with my mum and dad. BIG differance. of course this goes with out saying cos its extra weight.....
