  • Once and for all...

    I spent most of yesterday reading through the entire set of "tyre" postings...(I don't trust reviews on websites where they are also trying to sell..) and although it helped, it could have been easier - so I propose that we set up a spreadsheet of exactly which tyres everyone is using and how they rate. So if you post here (or mail directly) your engine size, make and model of tyre and Marks out of 10 (10 being best!) for each category below. I will collate the infomation and then post the results on the forum so we should all find it easier to find the best tyre for our needs in the future.

    Based on 5 ctaergories

    Wet on road
    Dry on road
    Offroad
    Noise
    Life

    So to start off...

    3.0 TD, DUnlop, Grandtreck SP5,

    Wet on road = 2
    Dry on road = 7
    Offroad = 3
    Noise = 8
    Life = 8

      1993 2.4 TD EFI

      BFG Mud Terrains 31x10.5x15

      Wet on road = 6 (very good, clear standing water well and don't aquaplane)
      Dry on road = 7 (Very good despite other reports, better than my Bridgestone road tyres)
      Offroad = 8 (Not so good when the mud is really claggy as they tend to dig deeper rather than gripping - they are too agressive in some instances)
      Noise = 3 (quite noisy but you get used to it)
      Life = 4 (Not so good as an AT).

      I propose we add the following two categories:

      Price = 4 (Can be pricy but can sometimes be got quite reasonably if you are prepared to shop around)
      Availability = 3 (Availability can be somewhat sporadic, often there does not seem to be enough to go around, making it difficult to shop around. I have been quoted £156 however got them earlier in the year for less than £90)

      Cheers
