Just to balance things out I've only been stopped once in 20 years of driving.

1:00 am driving home in Mid Wales with my pet cat sitting on the dashboard I got stopped. The policeman shines a torch in the car and sees the cat.

Policeman: "Is that your cat sir?"
Me: "No officer I'm a cat burglar".

Things went downhill from there on but I got away with a warning from Powys police!

I'm afraid to say that I'd call the Police only to get a crime reference number, as there are so few of them that they can't deal with crime any more. As was demonstrated when my old car was vandelised many times over a three month period. In the end my home became Fort Knox with 24hr CCTV, security lights, the works. The police were so busy they couldn't even send out a crime prevention officer!
I have had dealings with alot of Police due to my job, there are good and there are bad, from the Police crew that turned up to a burguled building, looked at the smashed door and asked why they had been called. To another unit and another building, looked at the door handed me a truncheon and told me to wait at the door whilst they stormed through the building.
I have the advantage that my brother in law is a local Police Inspector, which always reminds me that there are Officers out there that do the job because they care, I just wish there were enougth to get the job done right.

Manchester police seem to take a random view of whether to come out to crime, totally independant of the crime.

example 1: my housemate's inexpensive mountain bike gets nicked from just inside backdoor one evening, whilst backdoor was open - police here within 1/2 hour

example 2: neighbour's car get's stolen from in front of their house. Police "too busy" to attend, even the next day. But not too busy to knock on my door at 11:30 at night a week later "do you know who parked that car there Sir?", "um, yes, that'll have been my neighbour. You see it's his car that he's parked outside his house after he found it himself after it got stolen last week". They'd reported it found, been told they could have it fingerprinted, if they really wanted to, and if they took it to the station themselves.

Even more amusing is that said copper failed totally to notice an M733 assault rifle and a Beretta lying on the floor about 1m behind me.... maybe they weren't on his week old list of things to be looking out for?

                  Smeg.

A lot of it is attitude.
If you keep your cool, listen to why you have been stopped,
give an explanation to any problems or offences,an officer
will offer you help in understanding the law or the offence.
If people change things like race exhausts, put tiny number
plate on to avoid speed cameras, knowingly speed, talk on
mobile phones etc what do they expect?
But they are the first to moan?
                      Funny old world.
                      GOT NO COWBOYS HERE?

Well im still waiting for an officer to call round & see me after my WHITE VAN MAN INCIDENT http://www.yotasurf.co.uk/forums/sho...=white+van+man
last December, where my life was at risk as he deliberatly rammed me off the road. Ive got a strange feeling he has mates in the force. Shame his windows are going through in the new year.
Yes officer i do want to press charges. Ive had no contact since

sorry but reading back on this post, if you really think police try to help you are living on a different planet. they are institutionalised and brainwashed that they are the law not to serve the law.after 20 yrs of driving in e.london and being pulled up umpteen times for f.a. you lose faith in your justice system.my wife and i have been humiliated on certain occasions in front of friends and family by idiots given a badge of power for no reason other than us not conforming to their status in public. i take great pride in my collection of police vehicles illegally parked and regularly send them to local top filth.
                                no replies as yet.
                                yes i dont like filth
