I didn't realise what I had started with this one. As for calling the police scum, I would draw the line at that, as a very close relative is a WPC as they used to be called. Unfortunately they have had to lower the standard to maintain the recruitment figures, consequently they have their fair share of muppets.

It wasn't the fact that my nephew got the producer. It was the attitude of the officer, as witnessed by his girlfriend, that got my goat.

Only a couple of weeks ago he was followed by an off duty officer from the Met. This individual was at least 30 miles off his patch. My nephew had been indoors for at least 10 mins when he had a knock at the door. This off duty Met officer had called the local traffic police because he thought he had seen my nephew (who doesn't smoke) inhaling something at the roadside. The suspicious object was a Cornetto!!!!!!!!
As they were already there they had a good look over his car. Finding nothing wrong (including the now dodgy rear lights) they yanked the front of the bonnet, which is obviously fibre glass and surprise, it opened because they broke the catch. They did him for a defective bonnet catch.

I once knew a lot of coppers. I used to DJ at a lot of police social clubs. The vast majority were sound. I even got an escort home once because they had plied me with drink to play a bit longer. They didn't want my gear to be stolen from outside the station or for me to get nicked for drink driving, so they got a marked car to follow me all the way. Nobody was going to pull me if I was already being tailed. A wicked waste of resources!!
I just wish they could reel in the dodgy ones or had superiors that can recognise the cowboys.
    It's only a hobby!

      give em a break

i would imagine that once you have got used to finding 'hot hatches' wrapped round lamp posts, identifing the recently deceased occupants and informing their loving families, then your attitude to bean can exhausts and base boxes on cars that so easy to steal might change....
      it's in me shed, mate.

        Bit out of order really.
I've had a few pulls from the cops whilst in cars and on bikes and apart from one incident years ago (the cop was barely old enough to shave and was a bit out of his depth) they have been fair.

By way of example - a short story:

Last summer riding my bike through central London ( I ride a BMW 1100GS each day whilst working), I'm getting hot & stuffy, bikes getting even hotter in the jams. Reach inner circular road in Regents Park. Roads clear and no traffic so obviously I gun it. Suddenly notice a figure in the road ahead wearing a hi-viz jacket pointing something at me. Oops. Get pulled over. There are three bike cops. Conversation goes something like -
Cop 1 : Do you know how fast you were going?
Me : no, but I was over the speed limit
Cop1 : Look at that (shows me the radar gun indicating 54mph)
        Me : fair enough
        Cop 1 : why ?
Me : bike was hot, I was hot, clear road , no danger, no junctions overdid it.
Cop 2 : is that exhaust legal ?
        Me : no
        Cop 2 : can I start the bike ?
Me : yeah ( give him the keys)
Cop 2 ( starts the bike) its a bit loud !
Me : yeah, but pedestrians hear me coming.
Cop 3 : Got one of them at home, great aren't they?
        Me : yeah
        Cop 1 : 54mph means a court appearance
        Me : ok
Cop 2 That visors illegal (looking at the blue irridium visor on the helmet)
Me : yeah but it works, I dont get blinded by the sun
        Cop 2 Ok
Me : no really, it works try it on (being cheeky now).
        Cop 2 : I know I've got one indoors
Cop 1 : Right then, 54 in a 30, illegal loud exhaust and an illegal visor.
        Me : Fair enough
Cop 1 : Right p**s off and be safe!

Draw your own conclusions, but I think treat 'em like the humans they are and show a bit of respect and you might get some in return.

Just to add my bit as I've had a few hassles in my younger days.

Got stopped whilst walking from Victoria coach station to tube, questioned & searched in front of loads of passing people because "of your appearance and we have a problem with drugs coming in" - because I had brightly coloured dreadlocks, ripped jeans and tie-dye. Traditional drug dealer style then.

Got pulled in an Astra Sport by a fresh out of school copper and told to "slow down"
            "I wasn't speeding"
"well I had 75 on mine, you must have had at least 65 on yours"
"well, you had to go faster to catch me up, mine said 60, I'd get yours checked"
"er..... well, you shouldn't have overtaken on that roundabout, the lanes are clearly marked"
"it's over 200yds long. I was clear by halfway down it so I indicated and changed lanes, if I hadn't have been clear I'd simply have gone round again"
"erm.... well, just keep an eye on the speed then"
"yes officer, I shall continue to stick to the limit as I have been up until now"
            "erm...."
            "shall I go now?"
            "yes"

the whole time his older (and wiser) colleague was sniggering behind his back!

To be honest, alot of the time they annoy me, but then again as the various adverts on telly have stated very correctly:

            - could you do their job? I know I couldn't do alot of it.

Overall, I respect them and forgive them for being pricks occasionally!

            Geoff.

When I was a lad, some 20+ years ago, me and the old man had to go over to Rothwell, Leeds to collect some dosh for a job we had done that day. As I was still learning, we had 'L' plates on the 250 Superdream, I know red rag to a bull, and my dad rode the bike with me pillion. Sure enough we got pulled.

Cop " Now then where you going sonny"

At which point, my dad about 45 full beard, he felt it impressed the crowds when he played his bagpipes in the City Of Leeds Pipe Band, took his skid lid off.

              Dad " Yes Officer"

Cop "Sorry sir, you're obviously old enough to ride this bike, sorry to bother you, take care now Sir"

And quickly got back in his car and drove off. Well I !!!!ed myself laughing (sorry if can't say this), but as a teenager I thought it was great to get one over on a cop. Then you get older, not neccesarily wiser, and like its been said realise they are just doing their job. Keep it up boys and girls.

                The Fuzz

Everyones got a tail to tell in this topic aint they..?

Ive had the same, 17 years old ford escort, black windows and a bus exhaust.. i got over 100 producers in the 1st month of passing my test!!

I took the car to the police garage where they told me if i let them take it apart and taker serials off all the parts i would get left alone... So i did (well you would wouldnt you!!)

Car comes back (not very well put back together (radio amps speakers on the back seat) on the way home from the cop shop, i get.... Yeah you guessed it a PRODUCER!!

Stopped arguing sold car bought propper car (Alpha gtv) never got stopped since..

But there is always 2 sides...

Several years on from that (and now several years go) i worked on behalf of the police and saw many youngsters with cars they are ill equipped to handle wrapped around posts etc... I did it for 3 years, death and destruction everywhere it does taint your view on younger drivers (and older ones!) once you have experienced it 1st hand. I still have the odd nightmare.

The police are just human unfortunatly, and there vision does get clouded.

Me and Lottie are members of the PGAC (Peugeot-gti Autosport Club) - Lottie is the regional leader for Sussex so we organise the events etc. We run highly modified Peugeots and get lots of cases of club cars getting picked on by the Police because they associate the types of mods with town centre racers - rightly in some cases it does have to be said. There's not a lot can be done about it really, the Police are perfectly within their rights to stop a vehicle they don't think is roadworthy or compliant with the law.

I had rear clusters on my car with no red reflectors which I didn't think was an issue but in-fact the car should fail an MOT without them. I just put sticky ones on it each time.

However, I changed my mind on this when I was on a dual carriageway at night and nearly drove into the back of a black car stricken half in the fast lane and half on the centre verge - I literally didn't see the car or the people stood round it and nearly ran into them all - the reason I didn't see him was he didn't have rear reflectors.

Ok, maybe a bit harsh, ill narrow it down to traffic police. I am a keen motorcyclist and have been for about 20 years, im now 31 years young, and during that time the police have done nothing to convince me otherwise. On not one occasion when meeting the police, either at a bike show, race meeting or during unfortunate circumstances, such as when a friend of mine was taken out by an old duffer in his volvo (and no we were NOT speeding) have the police been helpful or polite, just smarmy, rude and pretty unhelpful. As the son of our first poster here, bikers are seen as 'easy money' for the police. They do themselves no favours when it comes to public relations within the biking community. Again this is my opinion based upon my own experiences, its just that i havent met a traffic copper to convince me otherwise. No offense was meant to be caused and if it did then i apologise.

                              cop: yes
                              me: ok.

3 points £60, lucky he didnt screw me for loud exhaust, illegal number plates and illegal L plates and he caught me at 250m away i didnt see him till 50m away, good job too as I wasnt doing 43 when i saw him.

cold day and I was on my way to see a mate who was ill, open empty dry road and they were standing right in front of the (40) speed limit sign within which he wouldn'y have even bothered. They pulled in loads of women while I was stopped and none of them got a ticket.

Mixed views on traffic cops really especially as I live on borders of two forces, MET and essex poice. They dont like it when you say the MET let you off either
