  • Kumho Kl 71 & Wheels

just purchased a set of these kl71 with 15 x 8 rims - the wheels were a pain - the offset of -19mm may push the wheel out a bit - not sure at what point it becomes illegal or an mot failure? but i have arches and its already lifted so i should be ok - anybody have any experience of this problem?

the tyres are a bit chunky for road use, but with the rock crawling sidewalls it should help the girlfriend drive up kerbs better and negotiating the neighbours lawn will now be easier for her - so i can say that i have considered her needs aswell!

In theory if the tread (not the tyre wall) projects outside the arches it's an MOT fail. However if it's only a tiny amount you should be OK.

What some people do is attach some strips of rubber to the arches bringing them out ever further, thus negating the problem.

I'm not saying your wrong Slugsie but when i ask my tester about it he said that its nothing to do with the MOT but its down to the coppers if they want to pull you or not but it should fail the mot on the tyres sticking out.

Is that the same MOT bloke that failed your truck just 'cos your foglight didn't work?

Well, I can't state what I did as gospel, just what I had been lead to believe on the subject.

I guess either way it may be best to add some form of arch 'lip' that extend beyond the bounds of the normal arches.
