I'm really embarrassed to say I didn't know I had to check the transmission fluid regularly, but it had been in for a full service a couple of months ago so I thought it would have been checked then. The gears had been slipping every so often but not badly, then the other day I drove to where I was going but starting back again, nothing nada zip from the transmission so I coasted down the hill in neutral to a safer spot and called Green Flag.

Before the garage remove the gearbox, did you/they check that the short transfer lever is in H2, i.e. pulled back towards the drivers seat?
If this lever is in neutral the truck won't go any where.

The reason I ask, is that it's very easy to accidently nudge the lever into neutral as you get in the drivers seat and not noticed, it's caught a few people out, including me!

Thanks for the advice - just wanted to let you know I've not dropped off the radar, just that the garage has been really busy and not had time to look at it yet. Will let you know how it pans out, one way or t'other.

nice smilies on this forum btw!

        • Hi all,

Spoke to the garage this morning and it seems it was a problem with the 2nd gear stick stuck between High and Low, all valves etc now checked and vehicle is ready to go. Thanks sledge, won't need the box after all.

beastie is that the front shock that Neil sent if so then yes you can change it with the wheel on and without jacking it up

look thru the wheel arch and you will see the top mounting point and the bottom is easy enough also
