How did he come to that conclusion? Auto gearbox problems are mainly due to the fluid or valves. A hell of lot cheaper to replace than the whole transmission.
Welcome by the way.

Thanks for the welcome! The garage guy is flat out at the moment and understaffed, so hasn't had a good look at it, so hopefully it will turn out to be something more simple, but he said that he wouldn't be surprised if it did need a new box from the cursory inspection he's had time to give it.Originally posted by BUSHWHACKERHow did he come to that conclusion? Sledge, in case it comes down to it, how much would you be wanting for the gearbox + courier to the Highlands?

Nope, no positive drive at all. Transmission fluid very low, but no bits in it according to the garage. They're checking the valves tomorrow. I'm really embarrassed to say I didn't know I had to check the transmission fluid regularly, but it had been in for a full service a couple of months ago so I thought it would have been checked then. The gears had been slipping every so often but not badly, then the other day I drove to where I was going but starting back again, nothing nada zip from the transmission so I coasted down the hill in neutral to a safer spot and called Green Flag.Originally posted by BUSHWHACKERWhat are the symptoms, can you still drive it?
