  • Liberty Motors - Mitcham - a fair warning !!!

    Guys,

If anyone has bought or knows anyone that has bought a car from Liberty Motors in Mitcham, I would get the milaege checked, I have just had mine checked, was sold to me with 85000km, Japan's last records show 205000km.

If anyone can offer advise (I am already taking him to court over gasket that went in 1st week) with what I can do about this, it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

      Milage

      Hi

was just wondering how to get the milage checked?

I am still negotiating with my local dealer over bearing noise and am beginning to have doubts about the milage on the car as the engine has a pretty rough idle and there is some steering wheel wear.

Hopefully all this can be fixed but the dealer is in the process of changing premisis and seems to be trading from home for now. He is talking to his mechanic at the moment about my bearings and may still honour my statutory rights so I am not naming him.

Should he leave me high and dry I will post a dealer warning on this forum and start litigation. Unfortunately the dealer did not pass on any Japanese paperwork which is why I am now nervous about the milage.

shame as its a nice clean truck with no rust or damage and to be honest was probobly still a good deal at £8K for an SSR-G at 100,000 KM (ish)

I would check the warrantee document, it probably says mechanical breakdown insurance i.e it will only pay out if your car actually breaks down and then only with certain listed faults.
And then only provided that it was serviced by the dealer before sale.
Laugh!!! I nearly bought my own beer.

Regarding the dealer, I had a bad deal as he wouldn't reduce the cost. The tyres were illegal. Is it acceptable to sell the vehicle in this condition? He haden't cleaned the car or put diesel in. Not a very good service. He did give me a years warantee for repairs upto £1000.
I was told it had a years MOT but this runs out in September.

I will check the mileage to see if I need to take action againt the dealer.
Your comments would be of help.

defien rogue dealers 1.always ask for auction sheet it will point out all damages even minor scratches to replaced panels they do check clocks over in japan for mileage freud as they have the system for this due to car thieft chassis id thieft so if anyone is coning u it's the dealers

2 if the interior is in bad condition ie rips an tears on seats, pedals, steering wheel well it's obvisious there are alot of miles on it

3 as for out side if it's mint inside an rough outside i would ask for auction report an a body repair specialist to check for old repairs check overall wear an tear of under body moving parts an engine parts

at the end off the day why would a wee jap want to clock a vehicl back for as they can't get them on the road due to test costs an laws so it's easier to ship it on no matter wot condition

an other thing is if u buy of a dealer which has in writing that it has 60000kms u want the thing with 60000kms not lower as it is plain as day it's dodgy u don't mind a 100kms extra but not 200000 extra if u get my drift

saver importing ur own no matter wot least u see ur grades an condition an damages before u bid

The BIMTA check can be useful but doesn't always work. I sent off a request on mine. Came back that no auction house had a record of the vehicle/mileage, so I'm hoping that it was a personal import bought direct and the mileage is good (65K when converted to MPH speedo).

                        Hi,

I have my case on Friday.

I have recieved a copy of the defendants defence and it appears that he is going to lie through his teeth.

I ended up paying £2450 for the repairs as the pistons were knackered, the head was damaged beyond repair etc.

Ill let you know how case goes.

                        Cheers

BIMTA would assist you i am sure, many garages have been shut down / fined / prosecuted for falsifying mileage on Japanese imports, ALWAYS get a BIMTA certificate for mileage / and to ensure its not been stolen in Japan. Having run my own importing business i know there are lots of cheap / low grade vehicles available in their tens of thousands in Japan.

                              Liberty Motors, we've been had

                              Hi

We've just joined this forum as we bought a hilux-surf from Liberty Motors two months ago and are now having problems. It keeps overheating and when we tried to get it fixed under the 12 months warranty we were told that the warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on and that its probably going to cost us around £2,500 to get fixed. The head gasket is cracked and we've also had it pointed out that the air-conditioning is illegal in the UK.

We've tried to contact Liberty Motors but they do not answer the phone. Does anyone know if he's still in business?

We're not sure what to do next and whether we should attempt court action. We contacted trading standards and they said that we had a case but not a strong one as we've been driving it for 2 months and it would be how the judge felt on the day.

                              Aaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhh
