  • Lexurf XII Update

Can't do it in one post and it's quite a story to just put in lexurf convertees so I will have to split it up and put it here.

So yeah…Thought I would post my experience on here. I don’t like to post on much as if I’m honest as the community on here isn't that inviting sometimes. When I do somebody tends to post some sort of smart a*se comment thinking they’re being funny to their little group of mates on here instead of being helpful so I tend to stay away and just read and take advantage of the awesome library of information of surfs on here.

As I've never really introduced myself I’m Daniel from High Wycombe and the owner of Lexurf XII. I’ve owned my surf for a few years now and have been a member on here for quite sometime now popping on and off and since I saw Vince’s work I always wanted a Lexurf like most have and decided to saved up to get it done as I loved the look of his work in the pictures he posts.

Over a year ago I saved up enough and started getting parts and met Vince, He is a real nice guy in person and he showed me through Lexurf IX I believe. Since I met him around November 2013 I decided to go for it and have it done for him to start in March 2014. I bought all the parts and was ready but he had a few issues and got set back until June. When June came around I dropped it off June 25th with all the parts and left him to it. We discussed what I would have done and mine was the most basic of conversions as I only wanted it all standard and nothing fancy and we agreed it would be done by the end of July 2014 as he said it was around 3 weeks work.

Unfortunately this is where things began to take a downward turn as the end of July came and he hadn’t even begun, yet I had given him an advance payment of £600 to cover his bills as he was in trouble. I didn't mind as I loved the work he does and thought he would get it done even if my car was just being sat in the road which I wasn't too fond of as I could be driving something I’m paying to be insured and taxed right? He said he had some steering shaft, cv/ball joint issues on number 10 so couldn't start on mine.

So I left him to it and still heard nothing for quite sometime. I had to keep chasing him via pm as he ignored my calls and emails and had to post in the general forum for him to check his pm’s. Mid October he said he had my car on the driveway now and was going under the “knife” and will post pictures that even. I didn't get pictures for a few days and all I got was some photos of a 2inch lift kit. So in 4 months or so I had just a lift kit done….

As October progressed we did chat via pm while I had to wait 2-3 days for a single response got frustrating, we did discuss a deadline as I had a tripped planned for 15th November 2014 and really needed it by then. So we agreed I would come pick it up on the 14th the day before. He had further money problems and asked for yet another advance payment of £500, as he had progressed with the work I sent it over totaling £2500+ he had from me so far.
I think around the start of November I went to see Dodge here on the forum and bought his Winch bumper from him which looked awesome and just needed a bit of TLC. So I took a trip down to Bristol to collect it and dropped it off at Vince’s to see progress. When I got there the engine wasn't even in as he was adjusting something and he was adamant the truck would be completed by the 15th. I said about my Winch bumper saying if it will delay the build don’t bother with it and just crack on, so I left fairly excited about my new Lexurf I will have the next weekend!

    Pictures from the visit:
REMOVED URL - Vehicle on the Driveway "1 week" from completion[/URL]
REMOVED URL..Yes that's IX I believe being used as a shelf and not been moved for a year plus since I first met him in November 2013.

As the week progressed he said it was becoming increasingly unlikely it would be done by the weekend. I asked to be updated and heard nothing until the 17th and had to cancel my trip and sit around waiting for a response during the weekend to if I could go get it or not. I was really annoyed and Vince’s poor communication as he refused to answer his mobile, reply to emails and when he is logging onto the forum replying to peoples posts and ignoring my pm’s when I’m paying him £3500 it does raise the blood pressure I tell you that, especially when I've been nothing but polite giving advance payments too!

After missing that deadline which was probably the 3rd? I think I missed mentioning one earlier as it’s taken so long I’ve wanted to forget about this ordeal as it ####ed me off so much. I started to question his work as he said the engine rubs on the bulkhead when he cranks it and has to take the engine out and modify the mounting brackets. Without sound a prick I did ask surely if it’s the same engine on the previous 11 conversions and the engine mounts he makes are the same as the previous 11 they would all be the same?
I got the response In pm’s saying:
No it's not the same as the other 11 I've done, no two conversions are ever the same, if they were there would be conversion kits available wouldn't there?!

Some other issues have now come to light so I'll just contact you when it's ready.*ucked of with the job today, nothing is going right!
I'm not going to answer any phone calls either as it's distracting not always easy to when I'm under the truck or got my head in a wheel arch.
PMs are easier as I can leave th screen on and just click the F5 button to read any messages.

I have stripped and rubbed down your winch bumper ready for polishing like the one on Lex 9, now do I carry on with that or just spray it satin black? it's the difference of 24 hours!

Here you can see he decided to rub down the winch bumper I supplied and clean it for me which was the difference of “24 hours” not that we were 3 months overdue or anything and I said if it delays the build don’t bother…

So end of November is rolling around. Like most owning a surf in the country now is the most exciting time as possible snow is on the cards and I really needed her back now after my dad had gotten ill a few weeks back and I needed a car to go visit him also. 28th November I asked him where we were at with the truck as I really needed it and said all being well with the testing I could collect on the Sunday.
Last minute he cancelled saying it was his sons birthday and had unannounced visitors.
    Here are the PM’s

All being well with the testing etc, collect on Sunday?

    Will confirm tomorrow.

Sounds good. Let me know how you get on with the testing. I can arrange a train for Sunday then.
    ---End Quote---
Dude! Don't buy that train ticket just yet, we've got unexpected visitors for the day. A belated celebration for Craig's birthday last Wednesday.
Feckin' hate unannounced visitors, can't get anything done and the truck's interior needs putting back together and bumper fitted before I can take it out.
So after missing yet another deadline. I can’t quite remember the details now as it’s drawn out so long but I’ve had to cancel 2 trips and various other things as he has given me the run around…

3rd December I got this back in a pm

Any news mate? Need to plan my week out.
    ---End Quote---
Just a couple of niggles at the moment.
Blew a fuel hose off the tank yesterday!
on the 4th he sent me a video so it was running and moving so I made the decision to go get it on the 5th regardless of completion and he had royally taken the #### with his poor communication and ignoring me. We set the date and said it just needed a clean and I could get it.
Of course this is Vince, failure of deadlines came to me saying he couldn't clean it up as foxes got to his chickens the night before.
You can see on this post here with me trying to get hold of him.
That post is one of the reasons I don’t post on here. I was having a bad time with my dad being ill and Vince ignoring me the last thing I needed was smart arse trolling from Slobodan and mudsurfer whom I don’t even know. I'm sure you were joking but I guess my situation made it less enjoyable so no hard feelings lads.

So the day came the 5th of December. I was going to get my truck! I left for the train station to get to Newport for 9am so left around 7am.
After standing out in the cold and delayed trains I finally go there and took a taxi to Vince’s.
So 3-4 hours into my journey I was at his house, but something wasn’t quite right. Where was Vince? Well it appears he decided to bugger off to Hereford for the day with his family to avoid me when he knew full well I would be turning up to collect my truck.
My truck was on his drive half parked in his garage miles from completion but I wouldn’t let him defeat me so easily as I was raging and was stranded miles from home in the freezing cold.
I spoke to the neighbours and one was kind enough to help me out and I gave him my number and said he would ring me if he saw anything as he said it was odd Vince wasn’t at home.

View from the street..There was a box that had dead chickens in it by the way. Nice..

So….Here I am stranded in Abercarn with nowhere to go and it’s getting dark. I had to go for a walk and go into a local pub and ask for a place to stay. I found a place 2 miles away as i’m not going home empty handed and thought I would come back later or first thing in the morning. I stayed at crosskeys inn at a room £15 a night which came with my own block of wood to prop up my bed which was fantastic, it’s not like I planned to see my ill father that night with my nice shiny v8, instead I was watching xfactor in some shitty room next to a train track, trying even avenue to get ahold of Vince as he had switched off his phone. I even rang TonyN and he said he hadn’t spoken to him for a while and this is where I ended up speaking to Ultimagtr21 quite a bit and heard of all his problems too.

      - The delightful bed propped up
      - Premium £15 a night room

So after the delightful night of ITV2 (only channel available) I geared up and went first thing to Vince’s trekking over some welsh mountains on my quest to get my truck back! I had booked a low loader and even took my v5 incase I had to get the police involved as it really had come to that unfortunately as he just shut me out.
I got to his house for the second time around 10am, knocked on the door and nothing..yet his hilux was there so I sat outside for a bit and waited..I walked away from the house and noticed that they were hiding upstairs! HIDING!! What a joke and his mrs popped her head out the window and ask who I was….”I’m the guy paying Vince £3500 and whom you’ve met a couple of times and pointed to my truck saying that's mine”.. she said they've had problems with immigrants and don’t answer the door while still with her head out the window…
I just felt like saying “do I look like a f**king immigrant? Open the ###### door!”

So he opened the door and couldn't even look me in the eye and I asked several times why he was ignoring me, he just claimed he wasn't. All the while his mrs going off on one saying to me he does it for the love and deadlines don’t mean anything or something along those lines.
Sorry but if you’re charging for a service and we agreed deadlines then things should be done no? If it’s for the love then you shouldn't be charging labour fees…

Well after some nice arguing with Vince’s mrs he hammered down fair play to him, I said I wasn't leaving without my truck so he put a few hours in with me and we bolted it back together so I could take it. This is a truck just needing a valet by the way!
He cut the bonnet bit out so it would shut as that wasn’t even fitted and hastily fitted the electric fan with thermostat. He still had the dashboard out in bits and the wiring was a mess, the sliders I had Yoshie made weren’t even fitted let alone painted it was miles from being done I would need a post as long as what I’ve typed to list everything to still be done.

URL REMOVED.. - Vince working away after we fitted the front bumper back on

After hours of work and testing I took it and left for home around 9pm. It had major issues as the fuel pump wasn’t working properly and would cut out yet I nursed the old girl home trundling home at 50mph on the motor with limited power! A slight incline would stall it and later I would find out why. After inspecting it when getting home he wired the fuel pump to the oil pressure so when the oil pressure rose during acceleration or anything taxing it would take power away from the pump because it changed the resisitance making it stall.

I could honestly go on for pages and pages about the day we last met and I took it but I don’t know where to start! As for my truck she is back home now and it wouldn’t be anywhere near finished still if he had it now. I’ll list what I’ve had to do.

Here what I’ve had to fix so far.
        - ECU wasn’t wired correctly and had loose connections not even soldered, the loom itself wasn’t even fitted properly in the grommet which would mean water from the engine bay would drip through the grommet and down into the ECU. Had an auto electrician rewire half the car!
        - Overdrive light flashing on the way home as he didn’t wire in a speed sensor so no speedo or rev counter
        - Oil pressure was wired to the fuel pump - when oil pressure went up it turns the pump down making me go 10mph on a motorway. I had to drop the tank twice as he didn't cut an inspection panel. He even used old hose not made for fuel in the tank to pickup the fuel. When the pump worked correctly it just blew a hole in it under pressure as the fuel ate through the hose.
Another thing too, fitting the electric skyline pump in the tank is that he drilled holes in the top and sealed it with silicon, this silicon has now been eaten by the fuel and when I fill up a full tank it leaks out the top so I had to get that fixed too.
        - rev counter wasn't accurate
        - my rear heater isn't plumbed in and i still need to do that
        - power steering didn't work. It had dirty fluid and was blocked so I had to take that out and have it rebuilt and cleaned
        - auxiliary belts were never changed
        - he didn't fit my oil filter housing to move it to the top of the engine from the bottom. I now have to unbolt the engine and lift it to remove the oil filter now.....Fun service that will be.
        - No air con in either but that's specialist to be fair
        - my winch bumper i bought and supplied now needs metal work done to it as he plasma cut terrible holes into it and screwed up my £500 bumper...
        - exhaust welding and flow is terrible, its just welded like crap and blows a lot so I need a whole system redone now which is more expense.
        - Oh I drove home with my gearbox all mounted in finger tight, sooo many lose bolts on my car i've had to go through and get it all looked at.
        - sliders Yoshie made weren't even fitted and no where near done or even painted. Cheer for those again by the way Yoshie!
        - When he did work on the car he didn't cover the front wings so they are all scratched to shit now...
        - hoses not tight and had leaks.
        - gearbox cross member not tightened properly
        - gearbox bolts missing
        - fuel filler hose not extended and painted my fuel tank gold when I never asked for it to be done..
        - lexus bonnet struts never fitted
        - speed dial needles never painted or anything
        - coolant hoses connected to metal pipes that haven’t been flared and weep coolant
Just lots of little things to even list...

        The wiring for my ECU
        Exhaust leaky with bolts missing

So yeah this is my experience with Vince. A project I had looked forward to for years was ruined along with my truck and to this day I’m still paying to get it all fixed. The problems are endless and he had the cheek to ask for final payment!

After advanced payments and nothing but politeness this is how i'm repaid and it's truly disgusting. I know people on here love Bushwhacker and i'm sure he is a top bloke but when you taken money and don't provide a service it's just not on.
I hope I am a one off but I felt like I had to put this out there as it's just not on and I don't wish for it to happen to anyone else so think twice before he does your Lexurf conversion.
If I didn't have access to a workshop and very good mechanic and car electrical friends I would be paying silly money to get it fixed.

Just wanted to post my story here to make people aware of Bushwhackers worse side it seems as he is happily posting and going on lextreme/hpoc.co.uk yet runs away from here.

Update: 12/05/2015. 6 Months on and still no contact from him. Would rather hide away than offer an form of compensation or solution. To this day I am still fixing issues with my truck from all the faults which has cost me a couple of thousand and still rising, fixing poor workmanship which was a potential death trap driving home.

I am genuinely gobsmacked. What an appalling way to treat someone who has paid in excess of 3k out. Im A bit shocked, as it seems the early ones were spot on...including IV which I had. Hope it all gets sorted.

              Few more pictures.

              Air Hoses
My hoses go around the top to my snorkel so needs to be water tight obviously otherwise the snorkel is a pointless feature.
Nice hole just cut into the silicon hose after the air flow meter which has an air leak. http://tinyurl.com/nbvrezq

              Winch Bumper
              - Notice the straight cut from factory and Vince's messy cut which I now have to get fixed as the hole is too big for the correct indicator.
              http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...l.jpg~original
              - When sanding my winch bumper he didn't disassemble it and just sanded over the rubbers which now need sorting too..

                Exhaust
                - Terrible Welding
                http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...b.jpg~original
                - Bit dark but exhaust doesn't flow and goes straight into a t piece so exhaust is restricted
                http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...2.jpg~original
                - Exhaust just clamped and leaks almost from the start of the engine bay
                http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...b.jpg~original

                Fuel Tank
                - Gold fuel tank paint which I never wanted is now being stripped because of the silicon sealant on top being eaten away. I now leak fuel which is dangerous!

                  - Fuel filler cap hasn't been extended or anything so I have a nice whacking hole and the hose flaps around.
                  http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...g.jpg~original

                  Bonnet
                  - My lovely bonnet hacked and slashed as he had to get it on so I could just take it home.

                    - Anyone have a spare clip to hole the bonnet stay? Vince took mine and never fitted the lexus gas struts as promised. Also don't remove that sticker when matching the paint or anything..
                    http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...h.jpg~original

                    Paintwork
All these nicely painted bits look nice to start in original pictures but in the real world when you use the vehicle it doesn't stand the test of time. My orange paint has started flaking and coming off after a couple months.

Sorry about the multiple posts but I get 403 forbidden errors whenever I seem to post on here and it's IP blocking me or something strange. Wouldn't let me post it as one.

Would I be right in saying you haven't had one of these conversions done?
