  • vacuum pipe engine stalling

    http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/attachmen...7&d=1092608732

fitted new rocker cover gasket & found vacuum pipe blanked with tape.

pipe no 90999-92002 where it joins the metal pipe going to the vsv,

removed tape & refitted. engine runs but stalls when revs drop.

guess it's blanked off ref a sensor fault, but which sensor ?

If yours is a '92 model then it can't have that hose unless it's been converted to a mechanical injection pump. That's a diagram for earlier models. If it has, then we'll need a lot more info.

The first diagram on this page should be yours.

You've got that VSV missing and possibly another two under rear of intake manifold. Maybe previous owner has done it to delete EGR operation and has messed up the whole job so blocked the hose you mentioned.

I'm guessing the hose that was blocked before, is the top one to the vacuum actuator next to where the VSV is missing. If this is the case then that would be closing the small butterfly and choking the engine. Plug it again until you can source this VSV from somewhere. Also check under manifold for the other two VSVs. If they are not there then it's going to be a task to sort it out properly.

a big thanks for all your time & input Nev.

have owned surf for 8 months & had no problems with engine, so will leave things as they are.
I was only curious as to why a vac pipe was blanked.
also the rocker cover was exceptionally clean, no sign of crud or muck.
so maybe the egr is bypassed.

If it was the top hose blanked off then with it like this the butterfly will not close on engine shutdown. This causes the engine to shake when switched off. Bottom hose controls the butterfly for EGR (partially closes) which even though the EGR valve may be disabled this is still needed to close the butterfly. Vacuum is necessary at both ports to close the butterfly completely on shutdown. See if you can source a VSV if the wiring and plug for it is tucked away there somewhere.

                      understand your info.

will have a real close look/search for any excess wiring, vsv etc, that may be hiding under the inlet manifold area.
will have a look on wednesday , day off work

had a good look this morning.
found a vsv with a blue plug located above the fuel pump.guess when/if had a new cylinder head fitted vcv refitted in wrong location.
                        all vac pipes are connected.

as per original post why is it blanked off ?

Locate the VSV in the correct position and then connect hoses as per these pics and it will shut down smoothly and not stall when idling.

                              that was very quick Nev

shuts down smoothly, never been a problem

will have a search in garage for a length of vac pipe & move vsv up to rocker cover.

                              big thanks
