  • Fuel starvation

I have read a few posts and some of the symptoms I have seem to be pointing to a fuel filter problem. Please may I have your valued input, my fellow forum members?

I have been running 90% wvo (filtered to 5 microns) and 10% unleaded for a while now with no problems. I do get lumpy tick overs for a while as can be expected. However, over the past couple of days, I have noticed a lack of power and today can only get to about 50mph max. I also have the orange check light coming on for a few seconds while putting the engine under full throttle.

Fuel filter is probably due for a change especially as I run WVO but is there anything else I may need to consider?

Filter the WVO to 1 micron, change the main filter and check the 'witches hat' filter in the pump.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

I buy my wvo already filtered to 5 microns. How important do you think filtering to 1 micron is?

It won't choke your main filter.

I just fitted a new fuel filter and took the truck for a spin. I still have the orange 'CHECK' light glowing when I floor the throttle. It seems to be OK at quarter or half throttle and creeps up to a reasonable 60 - 70 mph. But when I floor it at any speed, there is no power and the light comes on.

Is this something related to limp mode? And possibly something other than fueling problems? I wonder if I should chuck 50 quids worth of diesel in and see if that helps?

          cheers

Is it the one behind this little bugger:

Well I got the little filter out behind the sensor circled HERE and gave it a clean, although there wasn't much to clean, just a small amount of debris. More like a cylinder that a witches hat though... is that the right one?

Put it back together and still have the same problem; lack of power, check light coming on and max revs of about 2500 ish.

Anything else I can look at please?

                  Error codes?

Like above, the check light means you have a fault. The ECU has done all the hard work, pull the codes and see what needs sorting out.

If its anything to do with fuel pressure, and you've done the filters, and checked the primer pump is working then try blowing an airline down the pipe from the tank to the filter, often veg will clean all the cack out of the inside of the tank and block the pickup filter in the tank.

                      Overdrive light flashes continuously

Check light flashes: flash once, pause, four flashes, pause, repeat

ALl you need to know is in the sticky servicing thread...

Ooh, tough break, Timer control valve faults are Mo-FO to fix.

Go through the things to look at in the chart, if that dosn't fix it a good used or a recon pump is normally the only fix.

Thanks Tony. Well the filter and freezing/air problem are not the cause by the looks of it. I'm not sure how to locate a short or open on the unit.

I wonder if a visit to my nearest injection specialist may be in order?

Either that or I'll post up an 'IP wanted'

The Throttle Position Sensor seems to effect just about everything, and rarely gets mentioned in the manuals, I'd swap that too before going all out and doing the pump, might save a lot aggro for not much effort.

But my moneys on a fuel issue really.

Thanks Tony. Where may I find the Throttle Position Sensor?
