Looking for a Surf lol.

Hi, all. Its really difficult to know which engine or gearbox to go for? I have read so many threads on the merits of both. To be honest the more i read the more the surf looks like a money magnet. It seems unless you are prepared to spend a minimum of 2.5k the chances of getting a reasonably good one are pretty remote. Well i have an absolute max of 2k to spend .For that amount [or less ] i just want a good reliable surf.Any eng/gbox combo considered. Good and reliable are the most important criteria, not the colour.

Given the choice the 3L auto would be my preference, but as i said, just want the best surf for my money.Thanks for reply.

The best surf for what though?

if you intend to do a lot of offroading then 'best' would probably equate to something with a recent lift and maybe mud tyres,......whereas if you are going to be using it as a daily family car you would want clean tidy body and well looked after mechanicals?

fill us in on some of your wants and i'm sure the advice will come flowing!

I live on a boat. To get to my boat i have to drive down a long , muddy ,pot holed track. Thats about as near as i will get to off roading. Just want a rugged vehicle thats also comfortable for a cruise down to the coast. [not in the sand]. My old mondeo is on its last legs and the mot is due shortly. So i thought an estate or 4x4 , as i have a greyhound to taxi about. Also in the winter i use lots of coal in 25kg bags. You get the picture, if i want it i have to carry it. Spotted a hilux surf and thought ,yup, like the look of that. Did a little homework and here i am. So i would like a mech sound std surf. Havent got one yet ,but i feel strangely addicted already.

I assume you mean 1 + 1 UK owner.
Otherwise you're gonna have to import one yourself

1+1 would be good. I cant,really cant afford to get this wrong. Ye olde cash is very tight at the mo. So will keep looking. I do check out ebay, i even put in a bid,but it does seem a bit risky. Still hoping to get a surf via the forum or local..ish classifieds.
