Ive heard about someone using the ford sierra estate shelf with 1 inch extension.....did anybody try that/

Well.they have made 1/2inch extensions in shape of wine cork on both end rods and extended the material to by same size snd fit perfectly

Guess thats a no then.

2nd gen rear 'shelves' are just a retractable section of vinyl and are more of a load cover than an actual shelf. They have dedicated fixings and anchor points to them so you're going to need those parts as well.
