My gen3 KZN 185 fuel filter head, the priming pump isn't lifting fuel up and i suspect a minor air leak is letting fuel away so the truck gets worse to start. I don't think they are fixable so looking for another one. It's the winterpack one with the tin dome with a wire coming from it and a big black button to press.

Just got off the phone to them myself & they list them for the KZN130 but not the 185... She is going to get back to me as I believe I have a similar problem!
I've had all four glow plugs out today & tested them, refitted them back & its still slow to start from cold. Did the fuel filter as well (clean fuel inside) 3/4 filled the filter prior to screwing it back onto the head & it didnt want to prime up at all!?

Heard back from Barry @ Roughtrax this morning. The KZN130 filter head is not the same as the KZN185. The one for the KZN185 from Toyota through Roughtrax is £127 + VAT.
Thankfully mine started fine this morning, so will see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I've been away a few days. Today I have tried a repair to the filter head to stop it drawing air. Removed black plunger and spring fitted a cap and seal over the hole. filled the hole with oil and screwed the seal cap to the plunger stem. used a bulb to suck fuel through the head. started better but how will it be in the morning. Watch this space!

Well W1ll the news isn't good. when I came to start it it cranked for about 10 seconds before bursting into life and running perfectly. I don't fully understand the problem but I suspect the valves in the filterhead must be faulty and if they are not holding fuel in the right place. Maybe it runs away from the injector pump and away from the filter head back toward the fuel tank. I know when I last changed the filter it wouldn't prime and I used a squeeze bulb to lift the fuel to the filter. I'm open to ideas as I don't want to buy a new unit at over £150.

Hi W1LL, Don't know if you are still watching this thread still but my surf has never started better! Had a longer run the next day and I reckon any air in and around the filter head has gone now, the seal appears to be stopping more air and it's now an instant starter. Was thinking of trying the fuel bulb before the filter but am going to leave it alone now.
