The glow plugs on my 3ltr Gen 3 1998 sometimes will be on after the engine starts as it depends on the engine temp.
If it is hot the plugs will be on and off in an instant if they come on at all
If the engine is cold they can stay on for a few minutes to allow the engine to run evenly.
I was concerned and put in an other lamp from the glow plug feed rail and also fitted a feed to the rail controlled by ME as I thought there was a fault in the heater system.
Quite a few diesels will run with the glow plugs still heating in an effort to keep fuel consumption and emissions low and also due to the type of injection as to keep the engine quieter as it is not a "Cold Starting Direct Injection" system as they tend to be noisier.
I have seen my glow prugs heating for 5 to 6 minutes if it is cold as I live in the North East Scotland.

                  Mike

                          Glow Plug snag

Hi there, I have the opposite problem. My glow lamp comes on and goes straight off again and the engine struggles to start. Have changed the glow plugs as they were defective so now need a relay to try that if you have one available for a 3.0 TD 93
