Chrome Parts and C5 Corvette

Hi,

Looking for a chrome front bumper for a 1995 3.0 SSR-X. Must be in very cood condition as I am looking to replace mine, which has a very small crease on one side and a minor rust mark on the other side.

Also looking for a pair of driver's side (front door and rear door) chrome door handles in good condition - that is un-scratched.

Alternatively, does anybody know of somewhere in the South West that will refurb and re-chrome bumbers/re-chome front bull bar?

A bit pricey maybe, but then it is brand new and you can treat it (paint hammerite on the back ) so that it lasts the life of the truck.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have seen this before and decided mine is not bad enough to warrant that amount of money. Looking for a good condition S/H at the moment. If I cannot find one I'll live with the original or investigate the cost of refurbishing it.

Christ! I din't realise before, I've just notice you have a C5 'vette! Whats the running costs like on one of those, gotta have one before I'm too old!

Christ! I din't realise before, I've just notice you have a C5 'vette! Whats the running costs like on one of those, gotta have one before I'm too old!

I can't imagine that a new front bumper for that price can be of good quality - alright if you don't mind changing it each year!

The C5 Corvette was imported from an American dealer, via Ebay, and it is great. After paying for the shipping, import duty, vat, light conversion and the SVA test it cost me 50% more. It was still several thousand pounds cheaper than buying one over here.

The 5.7L V8 produces 345BHP and tons of torque. It has a top speed of 175MPH and on one of the Vette forums an American took a picture of his HUD (heads up display) showing 182MPH. I would'nt have the bottle to take my hands off the steering wheel at that sort of speed.

On a run the Vette will do 30MPG at the legal speed limit of 70MPH, but driving around locally (lots of hills), and to and from Plymouth it averages 21MPG. So that is not much different to my 3.0L Surf!! As my insurance record is good and I'm the wrong side of 50 it cost me around £450 a year.

The body is fibreglass, the chassis members are aluminium and the ground effect floor is a composite of aluminium and Balsa wood. So rust should not be a major problem in the future. Anyway, that's enough of me boring you with details - I could go on and on!! If your interested, you can see some pictures of my Vette (while it was still in Rhode Island) here:-

Wow! all that motor and costs the same as running a Surf!

We were in a petrol station a couple of moths ago and there was a red C5 in front, I was mesmerized by it and forgot to get out to fill up with diesel. Even the missus said "phwoar!"

I will have one, oh yes, I will have one.

One of the main differences is that I can slide myself under the Surf, for maintenance, without the use of hydraulic jacks or any other kind of lift.

With the Corvette the 'Fenders' (American for 'Sills') and front air dam are just 105mm off the ground. So it's a problem to get a jack under it at all. Built a couple of stepped wooden ramps that I can drive up onto to lift it off the ground another 70mm.

I don't think the 100mm ground clearance is gone to be enough for that weekend

be a bit awkward getting it around some of the trees too
